Forget the pickle bucket.

Stop by your local grocery, go to the bakery, ask them for empty icing
buckets, free except for cleaning them out. You'll have better luck in a
city than the country (greater demand for cakes and less demand for the
buckets). The buckets are food grade, usually have resealable lids and come
in about four different sizes.

....and don't smell like pickles.

OR, try a diluted bleach solution in the stinky pickle bucket for a day or two

hey, check out this site
http://www.survival-center.com/foodfaq/

it talks about pickle buckets specifically. I have had very good luck with
soaking in baking soda then dilute bleach, a good rinse, then about a day in
the sun to dry.

BTW, I use the same treatment on ALL of the buckets I find, icing buckets,
syrup.... Might as well be safe?
