One year we didn't find one. Later that year, I found it moving furniture. It cracked. It smelled nothing but nuclear disaster. Whatever you do - don't let it crack. If I want to decorate and save eggs now, I drain the eggs for scrambled thru pin holes at either end. Rinse & dry eggs, then decorate empty eggs, putting beads around the holes. Never any smell. I'm more familiar with keeping raw eggs, but have one that was hard-cooked.
