Default Wateremelons

Got a big harvest of super watermelons this year at 45N,77W. With the very
hot weather, they are sweet and pink. Chilled in the fridge they are a
refreshing treat on a hot day. I don't know what to do with them. They do
not keep very well. I am tempted to drill a hole in one and slowly dump
vodka into it's flesh. Any other ideas are welcome.

You could puree the watermelon and cook it down for jam or freeze it
for smoothies, mix in some sweetened yogurt and gelatin for a
dessert. The same with cool whip added and made into a mousse type
dessert. My mother used to make candied watermelon rind, thin sliced
and cooked in syrup for putting on toast or ice cream in the winter.

If they are seedless, make some melon'chino drinks in your blender.

Put it in the blender with some ice and blend until it's slushy.

I'm piggybacking since I missed the OP. I cut watermelon into cubs and
freeze then use the cubes during the winter for fruit smoothies. HTH

there's a traditional sweet treat from Sicily called "Gelu 'i muluni"
(roughly, "Wateremelon Jelly")...

serves 4, doses are metric

5 kg of watermelon
100 gr sugar for every litre of juice
80 gr cornstarch for every litre of juice
candied fruits, bitter chocolate for garnishing
(chopped, *unsalted* pistachios are also a good garnishing)
jasmine essence (the receipt would call for an infuse from the flower,
Jasminum Officinalis) to taste (no more than a few drops, I'd suggest)

cut the pulp from the watermelon into pieces, pass it through a sieve and
collect the juice in a pot adding sugar, cornstarch, jasmine essence.

Put the pot on low fire and bring to a simmer, mixing thoroughly. It must
thicken a little so boiling will be somehow long.

As the juice begins to thicken, pour in cups, and cool in the
refrigerator. Serve cool, and before serving, garnish the cups with
candied fruits and/or chopped chocolate and/or chopped pistachios and/or
(if available) jasmine flowers dipped for a minute in boiling water (or
syrup).
