Default frozen yoghurt

Does anyone know how to make frozen yoghurt?? Surely it's not just a matter
of freezing ordinary yoghurt.

I'd like to know too. :-)
I'm fixin' to start making my own yogurt and plan to also try some
fermented cream recipes.

I'd _love_ to be able to make my own low carb frozen yagurt out of this!

The easy one I make is...

1 quart vanilla or plain yogurt
1 C sugar
1 C mashed fruit - I usually do some sort of berry but use what you like.

Mix it all together and freeze in an ice cream maker.

Cool! So one needs an ice cream churner...

I don't have one, yet.
Can anyone recommend a good brand?

If there is no money for an ice cream maker, a suggestion:
Put it in a 'tin' tray (or any kind of tray for that matter) and after about
1-1/2 hour, stir it. Then stir it every hour or so until frozen. Nothing
wrong with doing it this way IMO.

The manual that came with our ice cream maker has a couple recipes. It
looks like they do mix some milk with the yogurt before freezing, as well
as sugar and fruit. We haven't tried these recipes yet so I don't know what
the end result is like, but it might give you a basic idea:

Chocolate Frozen Yogurt

Preparation: about 5-10 minutes, 25-30 minutes chilling time; optional 2 hours
to "ripen" in freezer.
Makes eight 1/2 cup servings.

1 cup whole milk
6 oz. bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped
2 cups low-fat vanilla yogurt
1/4 cup sugar

Combine the milk and chocolate in a blender or food processor fitted with the
metal blade and process until well blended and smooth, 20-30 seconds. Add the
yogurt and sugar; process until smooth, about 15 seconds. Turn the machine
ON, pour mixture into the freezer bowl through ingredient spout and let mix
until thickened, about 25-30 minutes.

-----------------------------------------------

Very Berry Frozen Yogurt

Preparation: about 5-10 minutes, 25-30 minutes chilling time; optional 2 hours
to "ripen" in freezer.
Makes eight 1/2 cup servings.

2 cups lowfat vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup sugar
1 12 oz. bag frozen mixed beries, pureed and strained to remove seeds

Combine the yogurt, milk and sugar in a medium mixing bowl; using a hand mixer
on medium speed, mix until sugar is dissolved, about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. With
the mixer on low speed, add the berry puree and mix until combined, about
30-40 seconds. Turn the machine ON, pour mixture into freezer bowl through
ingredient spout and let mix until thickened, about 25-30 minutes.

Sounds pretty simple... but I can afford an ice cream maker, just have
not bothered to get one yet. Thanks for the suggestion!

Depends on what your ordinary yoghurt is. If it's good yoghurt without
gums and thickeners, it will freeze just fine in any ice cream maker.
Full fat gives a nicer product than low fat. Might need to sweeten it up
a little, as the flavour can dull after freezing.

This intrigued me so I went out and Bought a icream maker. Bowl went in
the fridge monday around noon.

And this is sitting in the fridge...tomorrow I churn!

Not Low Carb!

Raspberry Frozen Yogurt from http://www.makeicecream.com/rasfrozyog.html

3 cups raspberries (12 oz weight or 2 small pkgs) makes about 1 cup puree

2/3 cup sugar

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 cup milk (I used evapored milk)

1/4 cup corn syrup

1 cup plain yogurt (I used vanilla flavored low fat)

I added the zest of 1 lime

In food processor purée the raspberries for about 1 minute or until
smooth. Strain and discard seeds. Set aside. Combine the sugar and
cornstarch in a small saucepan. Add the milk and bring to a boil. Cook 1
minute, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat. Stir in raspberry
purée and corn syrup and zest. Let the mixture cool completely. Combine
the raspberry mixture and yogurt in a bowl; stir well. Cover and chill 8
hours. Pour raspberry mixture into a ice cream machine. Freeze according
to manufacturer's instructions.

Wish I could follow a recipe

I'm glad to hear that there is someone besides me -- I CANNOT ever follow a
recipe. What is that? Either I change it or flub up in some way.
