Thanks, Alan... writing it down wasn't an option - my hard drive died,
it wasn't a software issue.

Anyway, I tuned into the URL tonight but the only name I recognized was
Kalahari. 11 names logged in and no one was "home"... Damsel and Crash
weren't even pretending to be there. <sigh> I missed the party -
once again.

The "vex's" aren't people; they are statistic-gathering bots. When I'm not
there I sign out; it's confusing to see people who appear to be signed in
who really aren't there.

Vexorg is a real person. I've met him. He's cute. VexLab is a stats

Is that why you don't come in there anymore? Hell, I'll write to Vex right
now and ask him to kill the bot. The stats are more of a curiosity than
anything. I've totally stopped looking at them. Get your butt back in

Maybe I know (memory speed?), maybe I don't. I'm not sure, so tell
me how to figure it out and I'm all over that question! I'd like
know too. Bus seems to be a buzzword... designed to separate the know
it alls from the don't know much.

Thanks for the heads up on that! I didn't have a problem with word
wrap in the old version of my newsreader. I don't see an option to
set word wrap, so I reset manually. I will post to the appropriate ng
about this problem, ASAP.

Now, back to bus speed...

While you're checking... Your "sig" is not coming through on your posts as
a sig, but as part of your message. (See below). You should check on that
too.

You might try the following, just as an experiment... On the line
preceding your sig, insert "--" (no quotes) in the first character
position. Most newsreaders interpret this as the beginning of the sig.

Okay, here's the thing. The content of your sig looks fine now.

However, there is usually a separator; e.g., "--", placed between the
message and the sig content which tells a newsreader where the sig begins.
The purpose of this only becomes apparent the you reply to the post. In
the reply, the sig should be dropped.

For example, when you click to reply to my post, everything beginning with
my name and below should automatically be omitted from the quoted text.

Does that make sense?

What news reader are you using?

Yes, most newsreaders will allow you to select from the post the portion
you want to quote.

Unfortunately, I have never used Agent and don't know how it handles sigs
internally.

Question... When you click to reply to my post and do not specifically
select the content you want to quote, does my sig appear as part of the
quoted text? The answer to that question would explain whether Agent uses
the "--" tag indicating the beginning of a sig.

Interesting! This version doesn't include your sig line in a straight
reply, the previous versions did.

Oh, well... I'm over it now.

For this to work, it's dash-dash-space
At least that's what Granny Sack told me.

It's set at 70. The message wrapped, but the sig lines didn't.

You are correct. I just looked at my sig line and it is also more
than 70 characters wide even though my line length is set at 70. Bug
report to Agent?

To be real super technical, it's dash dash space carriage return. That
is, the dash dash space needs to be on a line by itself.

Right you are. I didn't think of that because I'd automatically hit the
Enter button. Others may not. Good catch!

I sent and email to Forte and got this response. I used the insert in
the composition window for this message. Seems to have worked.

"Hello, Susan.

The word wrap is for the composition window. If you have Agent add
the
sig
when posted, it's outside of the compostion window.

<ctrl i> in the window is "insert signature". It brings up a pick
list
dialog, which will insert the selected signature at the current
location.

the problem with Mirc is that I can install it just fine, but using it
is another matter. Anyway, today - I'm not even getting to

Since we got DSL I can't use mIRC; nor reliably, anyway. I still prefer
Yahoo. Hands free, with voice...

I have DSL and mIRC is very reliable for me. Yahoo is okay but all those
voices crashing over each other bugs me. It's too much like talking on a
party phone line from the old days. But then, I hate talking on the phone
anyway.

Probably not. Since, if you read and paid attention you'd notice the
program mIrc was mentioned. If that's actually what you are replying
too. If it isn't then it's probably the XNEWS program, in which case
the same applies.
