People come and go ... not all are missed but some certainly are. I'm
always surprised that somebody who contributed so much can vanish
without being noticed.

I wonder what became of K3 ... the fellow from Maine who taunted us with
lobsters and fiddle heads.

K3 was a fun poster and enjoyable read. IIRC, he had some health problems
and financial issues. I hope he's well. He sent fiddleheads to Jill;
perhaps she knows.

I emailed him last year because I wondered where he'd been. I got an email
reply saying something like he was okay, thanks for asking. Polite but no
real info. The next time I tried to check on him the email bounced back as
undeliverable. And alas, I lost his snail mail address

I think he visited Tammy in Sacramento a few months ago.
Ask her about him.

You must be referring to Archon. As far as I know K3 never went to
Sacramento to visit anyone; he was entirely focused on his little boy in
Maine the last times he posted here.

I do have to extend grateful thanks for Kendall sending me fiddleheads.
They don't grow down here and he and his son went out and picked and cleaned
about 5 pounds of them to cold pack and send to me along with some recipes
just so I could try them! Granted, I had problems with the post office not
understanding "perishable". But the fiddleheads were delicious!

Kinda funny after reading this thread this morning ... who shows up this
afternoon in the wet/dry scallops thread?

Hmmm....

Yup, I'm back... sorta... I promised somone who emailed today (from RFC)
that I'd peek in and say hello. I've just been too sore & tired (from the
lupus) or too busy to participate. The arthritis has been difficult, but
we're getting it back under control. Who said I was having financial
problems? New to me!

Anyway... I'll try to make time to read/post to RFC more often.

Well, it IS good to see you. I think I remember the health issues ... my
arthritis is getting mighty bad too ... you have my sympathy. I don't
know where the financial problem idea came from, but then, hey, don't we
all have financial problems? ;^)

Seriously, I'm happy you are ok and wish you all the best.

Arthritis is bad, but Lupus is worse! Sorry to hear about
that, but it certainly explains why you aren't popping in
more often.

Hope all goes well and that you feel better soon.

He unfortunately a few years back got himself tangled up (both online and in
real life) with a certain California - based wack - a - doodle who used to
post here.

Of course the wack - a - doodle's friend (a current regular on this group)
had to insert herself into the situation (this particular regular apparently
has no life and lives vicariously through this group) and Michael left
pretty much in disgust. Can't say I blame him...

I expect that after that experience he was not only put off by Usenet, but
by Americans and females in general...

He was a good guy and a good contributor, I too miss him.

[If you've been a regular on this group for any length of time you'll know
who I'm referring to :-) ]

Hi, all is well. A long time ago I started gradually moving more or
less over to alt.support.diet.low-carb while having less time online.
This year my girlfirend moved in with me and I went 6 months to UC
Davis, where the little time I had online was spent with my girlfriend
and a little on the diet NG.
I didn't get to meet Tammy, but I met Christine Dabney and Carol and
Crash.
In Davis I lived in a house with 2 women (for most of the time - the
last month I and one of the others moved to another similar home, where
2 guys were living), who didn't use the kitchen much, so I had it
almost to myself. They were surprised to see a person spend time on
cooking! It was an interesting experience to do the food shopping in
California. ChrisD showed me the tricks in Berkeley (much too late,
though). The Spanish table rocks! I do mainly mediterranian cooking
these days - my girlfriend lived in Spain for 10 years. My home in
Davis had a rosemary bush, a lemon tree and a fig tree.
When I got home I've been busy going to conferences, writing papers to
present at them and doing the research to write about. I've been to
Verina and Italy (I ate veal's brain, yuk! And horse
steak/stew/carpaccio and sausage, yummy!) and Leuven in Belgium (they
certainly like their fruits on savoury dishes).
Plus, my girlfriend is using her computer and the internet and I only
use it at work, where I haven't been able to use newsgroups (until now
that google features newsgroup activity instead of just archiving
them).

Now, who knows how to make the kalamata olive sourdough breads they
make in Berkeley? I tried to make my own starter, but it seemed to be
mouldy instead of bubbly...

LOL! Not Gigantaus? You're more than one person???

So, does this mean you're in California after all and not
the midWest? I really thought from what you said to me that
you'd end up "there" and not here.

Since when??? Last week?

I tried to use Google as a distance news group less than a
month ago and it was literally Hell on Wheels... it took at
least 24 hours to see my post & of course any response. So
I ended up using a view only server and posting from the
slow server... it was much less annoying that way.

Yeah! And we met you, too! <G>

Michael came for a visit the day before my birthday, so we had cake with
unsweetened real whipped cream (which he's addicted to). He gave me some
huge bottles of excellent shampoo and conditioner for a birthday gift. He
and I also visited the Spam Museum in Austin, MN. It has pretty much
become a requirement for anyone who visits us. That place is really fun!

Glad to see you posting again, Michael.

It's a very entertaining history of Spam. You just have to see it to
believe it. The gift shop is incredible. The usual t-shirts and shot
glasses, of course, but if they were able to put the Spam name on
something, it is there. They also sell about a dozen different flavors of
Spam for $2.50 each. Even individual portions in packets for the ride back
home. <G>

If you're serious about going there sometime, it's on Interstate 90, about
a half hour west of Rochester, MN. And let me know if you'll be in the
area!

I'm not serious about visiting the museum, because my sister
lives in central Wisconson and it's just too far away from
civilization to make me want to travel anywhere else.

HOWEVER, I would greatly appreciate it if you would be my
personal shopper (if their gift shop isn't online). I would
love to give him a spam t-shirt for xmas! Frankly, if it
happens sometime in 2005, I'd be very happy! His birthday
is July 3rd (hint, hint).

Email me at "my screen $$ will follow.
