Oops for the typo... thick loin chops. For me, they are second only to a
a rack. They are best eaten medium rare.

New Zealand land is quite common here, both fresh and frozen, though I
have to wonder about fresh lamb not being frozen when it is out of
season. I have only had Australian lamb a couple times and it was quite
good.
There is an Italian grocery / meat store in the area that has lots of
good meat at good prices, but I have asked my wife not to buy lamb
there. Every time we have had their lamb it was a major disappointment.

Our supermarket had lamb chops every week but they were expensive and
did not sell well. On Tuesday they were marked down half price so every
Tuesday for a while we had lamb chops. eventually they caught on and
put less out for sale.

In the early 70s when my ex and I lived in Australia, we used to buy a
whole side of lamb for 18 cents/lb. Then the Japanese got keen on wool
and almost overnight the price for a side went up to about 65c/lb.
We used to go to a particular butcher shop, line up, then choose the
side we wanted when it was our turn and an assistant took it to the
bandsaw and in no time cut it into joints and chops. A lot of people
were paid every 2 weeks and that was when they would fill up their
freezer with a fortnight's food.

Back in the old days, frozen New Zealand rib eye used to be popular in Hawaii. It was a cheap and low quality piece of grass-fed meat. The only way to make it edible was to slice it up thin and soak it in a shoyu/sugar/ginger marinade. The fat on this stuff was weirdly yellowish and I don't recall anybody ever eating this meat without the sauce to cover up the taste. The Hawaiians were eating grass fed beef from way back. The meat we had back then was cheap cuts like flank steak and round steak. We hardly ever had a nice steak - at least, I don't remember that.

I really am shocked by the severe nastiness we find here. I have

DOH! (joking myself for being so slow)

When you first said that several days ago, you worded it differently.
Something like this:
"I don't buy lamb. Too many lambs in the fields around us"

Remember I joked you about not getting caught stealing them (from the
fields)

I took that as "I never eat lamb" and I was confused because long ago
you told me how good mint sauce is on it.

Anyway, now I get what you were saying. You can't eat them anymore
because you see them playing (as all little ones do) in the fields. Too
cute to kill and eat. I can understand that.

You've been friends with Bruce too long. He's gotten to you. heh heh

Bruce, you're not going to change or save the earth by constantly
putting people down for eating meat or foods with long ingredient lists
here on RFC. We all eat what we like.

Your comments are as worthless as people putting political signs in
their front yards during an election time. No one is going to drive down
the street, see that sign and change their vote.

A better approach for making change is maybe to start posting recipes
for the food you like. Post them often enough and some here might start
trying them.

Growing up, my mother never made lamb so I never looked for it in most
of my adult life until my late 50's.

I was shopping for a good steak one day and noticed a package of two
lamb cuts. I don't know what cut they were, but they were boneless and
looked exactly like well-marbled steaks. I took them home and cooked
them just like I would a steak to med-rare. So delicious.

I've had them a few more times since but not very recently...
Good eats though. I would gladly eat one and enjoy just as much as beef.

Well, I started reading very young with comic books. I still have most
of them (hundreds). That got my interest in reading going.

Then I moved on to young kid novels (no pictures).

Then on to adult novels and non-fiction books. I read most every evening
and I like *real* books, not an electronic book reader.

My place has a small library of favorite books of all kinds.
Many, many book shelves. The paperback bookshelves are even 2 layers deep.

Lamb is the one cut of meat I never get at the specialty butcher.
Costco has carried, at times, lamb sirloins and they are wonderful
grilled rare, sliced up and served on naan to catch the juices.

For all chicken parts check in the 'Halal' food section.

Because Halal meats are in their own logistical 'bubble', sometimes you
can get a whole lotta gizzards, hearts, or livers incredibly cheap if
it's just past one of their holy days and the store misjudged on how much
to stock.

(Sort of like chicken wings before & after Superbowl.)

We put pork sausage in our stuffing. The giblets are now discarded.

I live about 10-15 miles from a small farm that sells veggies, eggs,
wool and lamb. I got a side of lamb from them and it was about the
best lamb we'd had. Too much lamb for me to use up these days- who has
backyard grill parties for a dozen friends now, sigh sigh sigh?

There is a Costco (I know I keep harping on them, but I do like
them...) relatively close to a Middle Eastern community nearby and
they have sides hanging in there. Quite a cooler filled with them.. I
have not been anywhere near that one since the World Ended, so do not
know if they still carry them

Hey, that's not true. The Sunday before election day I drive up and
down the streets in the neighborhood and count the signs. The most signs
gets my vote on Tuesday.

I thought everyone did that.

A good company that treats its employees well! I rarely go there (my son

For a change, try roasting a leg and serving it with Shrewsbury sauce.

They could be better. They could be promoting their staff to management
positions. I heard recently that they make use of the temporary foreign
worker program to bring in Americans to manage their Canadian stores.

Halal and kosher mean "extra painfully slaughtered", because our boss

I know you're too old for an e-reader, but they're great. You easily
carry dozens of books around if you want. You don't need to store the
books. You're not stuck with a useless book after you've read it. You
can download ebooks instantly from the Internet. And they're cheaper
than paper books.

Yeah, I know. It's just that lamb's extra cruel. Considering how much
people tend to love little lambs, it's extra schizophrenic to then
slaughter and eat them.

If your neighbour beats up his wife and children on a regular basis,
would it be wrong to speak up about it?

I already mention 2 things all the time: fake meat and tempeh. It's
fun to see staunch carnivores react to "fake meat". They become
belligerent and get out their pitchforks in defense of real meat. As
if that's not pure crap half the time.

So now Bruce starts gaslighting. What percentage of your posts do NOT
put others down, Bruce? You are the very definition of a troll. So,
just suck it up when it comes to your froggers who will never, ever go
away if you post here.

Things are coming along nicely and I see you're now worried about it.

Janet recently trolled me in alt.usage.english by pretending I posted a
link to a video of Greta Thunberg when it was someone else who did.

I told her several times to check her facts but instead she went on a
troll-spree promoting her lies.

Although she knows she was wrong, she still doesn't have the decency to
apologise. That's who you are dealing with.

She's one of the nastiest people here, but the snooty, double standard
