My wife drives an FJ Cruiser, she loves it. They no longer sell them
in the US because people say they have very poor visibility, my wife
has no visibility problem and neither do I.

Compared to my Highlander, I can't see jack shit out of those short
little windows in the FJ. I've always hated driving it.

Any vehicle that needs three windshield wipers in front because the
windshield is so short has serious issues.

Only rear visibility was poor so we installed a camera, problem over.

Ours came with a back-up camera. It spent all of yesterday covered
with snow kicked up from the road.

How did we all ever survive before backup cameras, heated seats, heated
steering wheels and remote turning on to get the interior warm before we
came out to drive?

We survived better than we do now. Which has led directly to the Cancel
Culture.

I don't know how much of the cancer is caused by stuff like that. I
think we see more cancer now because more people live long enough to get
it. The next time you watch a something on the classic movies channel go
online and Google the cast. It is amazing to see how many died of heart
attacks in their 40s and 50s. A lot of them also died in their 40s to
60s of lung cancer because they were all heavy smokers.

LOL Kids these days don't know how easy they have it ;-)

Due to incidents when I was 14-15 I was not allowed to get my driver
license as soon as I turned 16. However, I joined the militia and, since
we were a technical unit, we were all taught to drive and I had a DND
license months before I got my regular license.

All of the military vehicles we drove had manual transmissions. They did
not have power brakes or power steering. There was no electronic
ignition. They all had a choke, so you had to learn how to use that,
know when to use it, how much choke to use, when to shut it off. If you
wanted fresh air you had to crank the window down, or use the no-draft
window.

I don't know when VWs started putting in heaters and fans. We had a
Karmin Ghia for a while and you didn't have any air flowing on the
windshield until you were moving.

And radios and TVs... they had tubes so they had to warm up for as much
as a minute. If you wanted to turn it on or off or to change the station
who had to walk over to it and turn a dial.... by hand.
I don't know how we survived.

The same way I survive right now. My car doesn't have a backup camera,
heated seats, heated steering wheel, or remote start. This morning I went
out in -4 F weather, started it up and drove to work.

The FJ Cruiser with backup camera and remote start is my husband's ride.

Back in the 80's a DOHC, all alloy, multi-valve, variable valve timing, direct injection, computer controlled, engine with an inter-cooled turbo, would seem to be exotic beyond belief. These days, that stuff is commonplace. From one point of view they are modern miracles, from another, they are a throwback to the days of steam engines. In the future, the kids are going to avoid gas engine cars like the plague. It will be seen as primitive, old-fashioned technology.

Why wait until the future? Amish kids have been doing that for over a
hundred years now.

Really don't need a rear camera unless you're backing up. For driving
straight ahead there's no need to see where you've been.

Back up cameras are handy when you back into a parking space and you can
see how much room you have. It's handy when someone behind has parked
really badly and is sticking a foot or more into your space. You can get
back to within in an inch or two and ensure that you have room ahead to
get out.

My cars have front, back, a bit of the sides in those areas, and
overhead views. Took me a few months to trust the cameras, but I adore
them now.

I like to watch in the back up camera and see all the people yelling and

Every once in a while I like to look behind me. For example, if I'm going
to stop or to see if there's an emergency vehicle coming up behind me.
