Back in the 80's a DOHC, all alloy, multi-valve, variable valve timing, direct injection, computer controlled, engine with an inter-cooled turbo, would seem to be exotic beyond belief. These days, that stuff is commonplace. From one point of view they are modern miracles, from another, they are a throwback to the days of steam engines. In the future, the kids are going to avoid gas engine cars like the plague. It will be seen as primitive, old-fashioned technology.
