If a doctor says to eat less or no salt, that's only because salt is our main source of sodium. Your average stalk of celery contains 35mg sodium. That's a low amount. A tsp of salt contains 2713mg sodium. YIKES! |

You are becoming dumber by the minute/second. Cindy I fear is still REELING from all of the very reliable sources I cited in rebutting her statement about President Trump's initial COVID response in the "My family got off easy thread": Cindy Hamilton wrote: "I find this discussion tedious ... Here's the thing. You and I both have access to the same facts. If you look at those facts and can't see how Donald Trump's inaction and downplaying of the risks of SARS-COVID-2 did not damage the American people, there really is no point to my continuing to type..." When Cindy is confronted with reliable factual information that contradicts her claims, she often cowers and runs away...in this case saying that she is too tired to type [BOGGLE]. I presented her with *seven* cites from various reliable - and I daresay mainly *liberal* - sources, she responded not to ONE...this *after* claiming that everyone has access to the *same* facts, took me all of 15 minutes to easily find them, LOL...!!! So we have no choice but to put a large red "___F___" by her name in grading Cindy's rhetoric/debate/search skills... As everyone's most humble and helpful servant, I've provided a link to the thread here in case Cindy needs a wee "refresher" :-) https://groups.google.com/g/rec.food.../c/h45VVH5HMIs -- Best Greg |

I think what she is saying is that salt is not the same as sodium. There can be sodium in a food without any salt (NaCl). I watched an interesting show in TV this morning, Cooking Over 50, where they featured sodium and it's role in hypertension. The advice they gave was to avoid prepared foods because they have such high sodium content. They recommended using herbs and spices to develop flavours, and, if the food is still bland, you can add a little salt. They did an interesting chicken and vegetable stir fry with sesame and orange. |

Everyone said they didn't taste good - they > needed salt. Some people's taste buds are trained to salt. When you get away from that, you start to dicern other flavors. It's not an overnight process but some of it I think is driven by 'just used to salty' because so many products have horrid salt additions. Like, why would anyone by Hunts or Heinz canned tomatoes? They do NOT taste better. They are just salt bombs. |

It isn't It is sodium chloride. 40% sodium and 60% chloride. Is salt and sodium the same thing? Here's a clear way to distinguish between the sodium and salt, as we commonly know it. Sodium is what's found in food €“ especially in processed food containing preservatives. Salt is what we add to our food. You can say salt CONTAINS sodium but it is not the same. |

Should have tried potassium chloride, but too much of that is not good either. If you are used to a lot of salt it takes a couple of weeks to get used to food without it. There are a lot of dieticians that have no idea of how chemistry and foods really work together. Been to a class like that and learned about nothing. The one that sticks out was don't drink milkshakes. So I asked if milk was OK. Yes it is. is ice cream OK? Yes, it is. I guess when you put them together you die. |
