Default Hot Pot

This was really good!

It started with making a veggie broth which I do most weeks from
various ends and bits from making other meals during the week. Those
are simmered then strained to a deep veggie broth.

From 2 quarts of vegetable broth, reduce by 1/2c or so while simmering
in 2tb dried roasted garlic. Add 1/2ts Korean flake red pepper.

Steam a variety of vegetables and seafoods then add your choices to
your hot soup.

The whole idea of a hot pot is to cook the eaters individual
ingredients in the broth, not separately, then drink the broth after
you've cooked and eaten some or all of the solids. What you have
there is just soup.

Hey, worked for us! We enjoyed it very much. We don't have the gear
for a flame for each bowl to cook it in the broth. Nice that you do
apparently.

There are different types and I've had them in Korea with a bowl per
person. Pusan specifically.

But the method of cooking first (a combo of grill and heated bowl at
the table) doesn't change. You are served raw, not pre-cooked
ingredinets.

We have a couple of hot pot restaurants in our town. I enjoy eating at one of them but it's hard to get the wife and kids to go. I have made Korean budae jjigae but it needs a little work. Perhaps I'll try again tomorrow. I've got a nice butane burner from Amazon that should make it a lot of fun!

I love that! I actually *like* the spam touch as well as it's a good
match. Yes, it would be very fun over a butane burner. Come to think
of it, we got one too. It's ancillary emergency heat if power goes out
but it also has a little cooktop on it that can be cut on.

Intention is ancillary 'keep the pipes from freezing' in the bathroom
which is farthest spot from the fireplace. WE can and have heated in
power outages just with the fireplace but that back area, has to have
an augment or pipes can freeze. Not toasty warm, but we can maintain
about 50F all but there.

Spam is what the Koreans like to add when making this dish. They'll also add hot dog but I didn't. After a while, you add a block of instant ramen and American cheese and that's what I did.
I recently bought a Korean grill pan for the butane burner. It's pretty cool because there's a drain hole in the center that channels oil under a grill to the side. I haven't tried it yet so its effectiveness is untested. These things are made to fit the ubiquitous Asian butane burners.

"Funny", I see a hair - type thang, too, and I my screen is perfectly clean 'n clear...

Indeed it is - much ado about nothing. I cooked up some kale yesterday. It was cooked for 25 minutes in a pressure cooker. Then it was drained and then a can of coconut cream was added and simmered for a while. Cooking this way is common with taro leaf in the Pacific. It was pretty tasty.
