Default Stay at home dinner

Thanksgiving
We were going to go out to eat but decided everything was going to be
too busy.
I have an eye of round beef roast that I started thawing last night. I
think it will be the beef roast rare, baked potatoes and Brussels
sprout fresh off the stalk. Warm gingerbread with whipped cream for
desert//Some wine .
I'll call that good.
I'll enjoy any of that as leftovers.

Sounds good to me! I've never seen brussels sprouts on the stalk at
local grocery stores. The pics I've seen look pretty cool. I love
brussels sprouts. Happy Thanksgiving!

thank you. Years ago whole stalks were sold. These days the stalks
are cut in thirds. I no longer feel like I have captured a wild thing
But the sprouts still stay fresh longer.
Happy thanksgiving to you too.

Sadly, I don't see brussels sprouts like that. I find brussels sprouts
sold "loose", or occasionally in small [pint?] baskets covered in
whatever passes for cellophane these days. I tend to avoid the ones
sold that way. I like to be able to select what I'm buying.

Have you ever made "escalloped" brussels sprouts? They're delicious!

no, I haven't. If you have time and a recipe would you share please?
I will have Brussels sprouts still left on the stalk. It sounds
delicious.

Easily done! They're like scalloped potatoes. Slice the brussels
sprouts in half. I par-cook them. Then make a simple white sauce and
pour it over the sprouts in a baking dish. Top it with a mixture of
shredded cheese and dry breadrumbs. (I like a combo of shredded swiss
and parmesan.) Bake @350F for about 30-40 minutes. You know the drill,
cook until the sauce is bubbly and the topping is lightly browned.
Very tasty!
