Yes, I made lentil soup with spinach (no picture). I cooked twice
today. The pot of soup and pan fried steak with buttered mashed
potatoes and Fordhook lima beans. Sorry to disappoint Julie but I
didn't "lightly steam" anything. Heh.

Finally, someone who likes lima beans! Looks good, Jill.
I'm just putting some eggs on to hard boil. Tomorrow we will either
have a chef's salad or a taco salad. High 90s, maybe over 100, nobody
feels like eating anything heavy. The weather just calls for salads.

I am growing some this year. They are just starting to fill out their
pods. I do not know how fast they get to the picking stage, though.

Are you going for green/fresh? or dried?

Fresh.

I suppose that as the season progresses and we eat our fill and I get
enough in the freezer, I'll be left with some on the vines that will
be dried for me.

I tried growing broad or fava beans for 2 or 3 seasons but gave up. I
had heavy crops of big, fat pods but was lucky to find a bean in any of
them.

I love them but they cost more than other beans so I don't eat them often.

I love lima beans, especially the big fat Fordhook limas.

You did use a steamer for the spinach!

probably not. If she bought commercial frozen chopped spinach, you
thaw, you drain water out, you drop it into your recipe.

I didn't steam the spinach (as she knows perfectly well). What I wrote
was I used the collapsible steamer basket to *drain* the excess liquid
out of the *thawed frozen chopped spinach*. Put the thawed spinach in
the basket, close it up and squeeze it over the sink to get rid of the
excess water. Works great!

That's how Popeye prepares his spinach, unless he eats it straight
out of a can during emergencies!

That's the girlie way to prepare spinach. Afraid to get valuable
spinach water on their hands. Or just too weak to squeeze it out.

> unless he eats it straight
> out of a can during emergencies!

Yes! Popeye squeezes the can until the lid pops off and the
squeezed spinach flys up and right into his mouth. Immediate
super strength!

No need to drain spinach water when used in a soup... with fresh
spinach simply wash well and add to a soup, not necessary to chop. For
soups fresh spinach is better than frozen.

No need for steaming spinach when added to soup.
