Has anyone heard of or watched this on PBS?

Kevin Belton New Orleans Cooking.
https://kevinbelton.wyes.org/recipes/

I just happened upon his show a few weeks ago and I really like
it. Nice likable personality and I like many (but not all of his
recipes). Very outgoing person. I enjoy watching and he's
actually on most days.

Nice and refreshing to watch a real cooking show vs constant
competition cooking game shows.

Yes, I watch his show when I remember to look for it. He seems like
personable guy and the food he cooks is interesting. He doesn't need
some silly catch phrase like Emeril Legasse (BAM!) to make it fun to watch.

Â* Sitting here trying to remember who that Cajun chef was that liked to
swill wine while cooking . He was a humorous guy in addition to
presenting some interesting dishes .

"I gar on tee!" LOL He was a funny old guy and the show was amusing.
Didn't seem to mind if he dribbled something on his plaid shirt. He did
wash his hands a lot, which is a good thing. He used as much wine in
the cooking as he drank. Always told a little anectotal story/joke
while showing us exactly when and what to add to the pot or the skillet.

Ah Gharuntee!

He's long gone... any of his shows are reruns. I enjoyed his cooking
style, got right to the gist of it, no beating around the bush
attempting to make it more complex.

Iron Chef was good. Iron Chef America was crap. As was to be expected.
Cheap, tasteless, embarrassing... in short, American.

OTOH, one could learn something from his shows despite the hoo-hah! One
learns sod-all from those damned competitions.

I think we're in agreement about competition cooking shows. I don't
watch them. I just plain never liked Emeril Legasse. There are a
number of "TV chefs" I don't like so I don't watch the shows.

I get a lot of information as well as entertainment from watching the
cooking shows I have access to on PBS. I listed a few of them in
another reply.

I forgot to mention *America's Test Kitchen*. Love that show!

They're all usually 30 minute shows, food looks good and not terribly
complex or requiring a million ingredients. Sure, I get some cooking
inspiration from them.

Before the damned competition shows, Sarah Moulton used to be on here at
around supper time. I always watched her show.

Some seasons she's on my local PBS then she's gone. Then she's back again
another year. I'd rather see her all the time and they can drop Lawrence
Welk FOREVER.

I've watched a few Sarah Moulton shows, too. Problem is I have multiple
PBS channels and they don't all show the same ones. I don't really keep
up with the time each one is on.

I like the Great British Baking and the Great Canadian Baking -
there's pressure but no bad treatment of the loser. I enjoy watching
what the contestants come up with.

She was pretty good. The only problem I had with her was that she had
people calling in and asking questions about something completely
different, so she would be making one thing and talking about something
else. I can't do the vicarious multi tasking.

You know the contest show has gone down the "reality show" bunny hole
when they contestants start talking about how they are doing it in
honour of a friend/mother/ sister who has just been diagnosed/ is under
treatment for/ has just died of cancer or some other tragedy that should
get them some sympathy from the judges.

"sod-all" heh ehh
Try watching "Beat Bobby Flay." You get good idea of how to
prepare one ingredient or one specific dish. Interesting to me to
see how 2 people treat that for 2 different dishes. It gives me
ideas.

Is that the only cooking show your local PBS station airs?

Can't speak for Gary but I find lots of cooking shows on various PBS
stations. Along with Kevin Belton's 'New Orlean's Cooking', I
occasionally watch Lidia Bastianich's 'Lidia's Kitchen'. I like 'My
Greek Table' with Diane Kochilas. Every once in a while I watch Martha
Stewart's 'Cooking School' or Jacques Pepin. I have access to lots of
cooking shows; maybe Gary's PBS station doesn't air them.

8 PBS channels here, Jill. I get all those cooking shows and many
more. Of the 8 channels, one of them seems to specialize in
cooking shows. The other's rarely have one. Another one
specializes in travel shows.

Not at all, Joan. Just the one I wanted to mention.

I have 2 main PBS channels. One based in Norfolk and one in North
Carolina. Each of their main channels often show the same things
at the same time. These are the 2 channels that have begathons
often.

Each of them also has 3 alt channels and all 6 of those are
completely different programming. One channel is mostly cooking
shows so I probably get them all.

Every evening:
Kevin Belton
Lydia's italian cooking
America's Test Kitchen
Cook's Country which is the same deal as ATK
The new show by Bow-tie man which is boring to me.
So many more cooking shows on that one channel.
I check them out occasionally.

It's only the Food Network that has all the competition shows but
I do like the "Beat Bobby Flay" shows. He's such an arrogant
show-off but he is personable and good chef. It's fun to watch.
You get ideas well from that one. First part is take one single
food item and make it the star of your dish. Interesting to see
how each do that.

Then the winner of that tells Bobby their signature dish and both
make that. Again, interesting to see how both handle it.

Oh well.
