On a recent visit to Australia, there were what I thought were cinnamon
buns offered for breakfast.
As I don't particularly like the large quantities of cinnamon in those
buns, I avoided them only to find out later that the dark stuff in the
spirals was Vegemite!!!!!!

Blech.
Vegemite is even worse than Marmite.

I don't think I know the difference between vegemite, marmite and
promite. And I've never tried cheesymite.

Lol, I still keep a jar of Marmite on hand for the times I really
fancy a cheese sandwich smothered in Marmite for lunch

I have unopened jars of both, just because. They're both three or four
years old now. Nobody seems to mention them in the States, but if they
do, I'll be ready. Of course, the aged stuff might kill them now, but I
have it! I've never tasted either.

That's because our connection with England is attenuated by immigrants
from other nationalities and by time.

Do you eat that? Ever tried it? Like it, if so?

I've never see either Vegemite or Marmelite here.

It looks like a lubricant that you'd expect to be used for the wheels
of Amish carts. It tastes salty, savoury and strong. I don't mind a
thin layer of it, but not too much.

I think that's why many don't like it, it wasn't spread thinly enough.
Best to be over sparing and add a little more if you would like it
stronger.

Yes, that sounds bad enough to never try it again.
