I would rather have a real Greek salad that any lettuce salad. I cringe
thinking back to the times I naively ordered Greek salads and they came
withe lettuce in them. There is not enough lettuce in a Nicoise salad
to be a problem, or to be missed.

Maybe I should be paying closer attention to the story, but I am
assuming that, rather than being some sort of epidemic, it is only a
small number of acres or farms affected. There would not be time to
check them all, so they will chuck it all rather than take a chance of
facing a huge lawsuit.

I used to grow my own romaine, guess I'll need to go back to that. In
this area there are many greenhouse farms... several acre size
greenhouses produce a lot. Lettuce is easy to grow.

Tastes vary. I occasionally have a salad of nothing but lettuce.

It quite likely is one grower or one processor, but until the source
is identified, better safe than sorry.

Most people have no idea where their lettuce came from. The romaine
that I buy lists an address for the grower, but that's just where
their corporate headquarters are.

I just bought a head of iceberg. I bought it specifically to wrap my chicken
in. It's some good chicken.

https://www.amazon.com/photos/share/...vSXu6CiJzWOb9h

I made the sauce that you wrote about. It's just wonderful. I have made
shoyu chicken before but it never occured to make sauce out of it before.
Thanks!

Which sauce?? Do you mean the one I call, Musubi sauce, with the leeks and
onions??

They were saying here that it is the hardest ecoli to track with it
being lettuce born. Mostly because by the time the person is affected
and they look at what they ate recently, any lettuce remains are long
gone.

I imagine that they get in a bunch of lettuce from multiple sources,
put it in a big vat of questionably clean water, and don't know which
lettuce came from where when it comes out.

Things are changing.

Not all places dip produce in vats of filth anymore.

Glass house grown produce is the way to go in my view.

Not all, no. But plenty still do, as we continually have outbreaks
of foodborne illness.

Sure. Meanwhile, I live in the here and now.

I've got a sixpack of romaine hearts in the fridge. I'm thinking
that the $5-6 that I paid for it is a very small amount to waste.
