I forgot what they're called here, but they're common in the

You should buy a few to cook a few different ways before growing
them next year. Make sure he likes them and maybe even you
too.

My favorite way to cook them is to slice them 1/3 inch or so
thick then do the 'flour-eggwash-flour again' thing and fry them
in shallow oil until very nicely browned and crisp. Lightly salt
and pepper.
