Default incomplete shopping list

I started working on a list, and got distracted before writing something
down, and now I can't remember what that something is. I need to go to the
store because I'm out of coffee and a few other things.

The more I try to remember, the further away it slips. Until I am home
from the store, then it's front and center.

Â* My wife's solution for that is to have a piece of paper stuck to the
side of the fridge with a magnet . I write things down on it as I pull
the last one from "storage" to "now using" and they magically appear
back on "storage" next time she does grocery shopping . Downside is if I
don't write it down it don't get bought ... though there is an unwritten
"list" of staples that she tracks and buys as needed .

I'm so happy to hear you say that. It worries me when that happens to
me. It's nice to know that I am not alone. You will remember the
list item as soon as you begin preparation on the same item. Of
course you won't have it. BTDT

that's why I have the computer in the kitchen, so that I can keep a
list. However, if I am at the other end of the house I am liable to
forget the item, just remember that I am supposed to put it on the
list :-((

I had a victory today - I forgot the carefully made list but when I
checked it after I was home, I had remembered every item on it

Quite often when I pick up a buggy at the store it will have
somebody's shopping list in the kiddie seat.

I always read it to see if there's somthing on it that I need.

My husband thinks I'm nuts when I do that.

I've been using the magnetic-pad-and-pen-on-the-refrigerator method
for years but I also have a problem with not writing things on it if I
think about them when I'm not in the kitchen. I found a solution in
the form of a Google-supplied service called "Google Keep" or "Keep
Notes". It's an app that can be installed on Windows, Apple, and
Android systems and is linked to a specific Google account that you
designate. You can use it to enter not only text notes and lists with
a real or virtual keyboard but also hand-written notes (using a finger
or stylus), pictures (that you can annotate), and (wonder of wonders)
even dictation. The dictation feature is especially useful. It
transcribes what you say into text and so far it's been pretty good at
getting it right, so long as I speak English. (Turkish *really*
confuses it. ;-))

I never have a problem not writing anything down any more because at
the very least I'm sure to have my phone with me. Notes entered on one
device are instantly shared across every other system that logs into
your Google account and has the app installed on it.

I like your way of thinking. If you like having a lot of laughs at your husband's expense, try buying everything on a shopping list you've found. Then pretend that it's the most normal thing to do and say that everybody does it. This ought to keep hubby on his toes.

Heh ask me how I know how that works <g> I keep a small notebook and jot

Perhaps don't wait until you decide to write your list?

I don't wait until just before going shopping to make a grocery list
from scratch, instead I keep a running list in the kitchen that I add
to as soon as I realize I need something... if something I use often I
buy two... I buy two or more of most items and as soon as I open the
last one I add it to the list, I don't wait until there's none left...
I'm sure no one wants to wait until they use the last of the TP before
putting it on the list. I also save those lists, they're helpful
reminders to skim through before leaving for the store... there's
almost always something on a several weeks old list that it's time to
buy again... and I'd rather have extra cleaning supplies than run out,
cleaning supplies are not perishable. When I see a good sale on bar
soap I'll buy some, they get unwrapped and placed in the dresser
drawers with clothes, by the time they're ready to use they are well
dryed out and so last longer. O e thing I could never understand is
the molded-in soap dish in showers is always placed where the shower
water sprays directly on it. duh
I despise those storage things that hang from the showerhead pipe,
they become a clutter collector.
This is the best soap dish I've ever seen, easy to place up high well
away from the shower spray and holds very well:

Only if you place clutter there, it's not like the clutter fairy is making a
mess.

When I'm at the other end of the house, I dictate to my cell phone
shopping list. Then, before I print up my master list I check my cell
phone to make sure everything on the phone list made it to the master
list. I print my shopping list because I like to scratch items off as
I go along or make notes. My master list has a section for sizes
(furnace filter, husband's sizes, light bulb sizes, car batteries, odd
stuff that you don't buy every day.) My list is also sectioned off
according to which store I shop for an item -- Costco, Albertsons,
Winco, Home Depot etc. When I get home I delete items from the
computer master list. My list prints out 2-sided but most everything
I need to know is there.

We use a spare room as a store. It has shelves all around and I use it to
store groceries, cleaning stuff etc. I very rarely actually run out of
something I use regularly.

I have two big freezers in there too, one upright and one chest. The only
thing I 'must' shop for is fresh veggies etc.

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can't remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain

I do the "add to the list as you think of things" method favored by many
others who have contributed their respective two cents to this discussion.
I even keep the list in my pocket the day I am going shopping so it's
always handy.

My problem is that I was writing a couple things down, and had the
next thing in my mind, and before I had a chance to write it down was
distracted by something else. When I returned to my list I could not
remember the thing, which turned out to be strawberry preserves.

The reason I could remember it based on Wayne's account of forgetting
mustard is that it's a lot like mustard - I don't buy it very often,
and as the supply is getting low I forget to put it on the list for a
few cycles, then finally I remember, usually when I'm down to the last
milligram or so. It also sits near the mustard in the fridge door. Shows
that proximity has a lot to do with memory.

I know( All I can suggest is what I do, I have my wee notebook and I
write all stuff down as I think of it. Whatever it may be.

At night I look through it. From it I make some lists, usually for shopping
or for telling people

Good luck.

I've never had much luck with pencil and paper. I do alright with a keyboard but this is a problem that has dogged me all my life. Males seem to have this problem more than females. People that can take copious notes are a wonderment to me. Perhaps note taking should be introduced simultaneously with learning to write in kindergarten.

One of these days I hope all the cell phones stop working, if only
briefly, so that people will have to go back to using their *minds*
rather than apps.

I think I found your shopping list at Costco last week.

You need toothpaste and breath mints. Trust me.
