Default Dinner tonight 8/19/18

I made a pot of red beans and rice with 1/2 lb. sliced andouille
sausage. I've got a pan of cornsticks in the oven. A nice combo on a
stormy summer evening.

We had meatloaf, small baked potato and zucchini. Had crustless pumpkin pie
for dessert.

Chicken tikka masala for him; dal for me. Rice pilaf and salad for both.

That sounds like a good meal! Banana pudding anything seems to be a big
hit in the South. I saw your post in another thread about whipping
that cream by hand with a whisk and the recipe for the icebox cake.

Â* We had frozen beef ravioli with bottled (not mine) pasta sauce - I
doctored it a bit - and garlic bread from home-baked hoagie buns . Green
salad on the side . Neither of us felt like doing any "real" cooking .

Lots of thunder and heavy rain here this morning. It finally
ended by 9 so I could goto the bank to make a deposit. It was a
large amount of cash and a 2-month-old check. First time ever,
they asked me for an ID just to deposit to my own account. WTH
was that all about, I wonder?

I even asked why my ID to make a deposit. She (new person) said
"to make sure you have the right account." I told her that I SURE
wouldn't be depositing all that money to a wrong account. Anyway,
I got it done but that was odd.

There are days when we don't feel like doing any cooking either.
That's when those things we froze, baked or canned are a blessing.

When I read it I was wondering why you were whisking by hand (sore
shoulder). Why not the electric hand mixer? Or a even a stick blender.
I find a stick blender to be very useful.

A cold metal bowl, cream... some form of electric blender. It's not the
1900's.

Me, too. I think nothing of going out by myself to eat; I did it today.
Amazing the number of people who wouldn't dream of eating in a restaurant
by themselves. I've asked a few why the hesitation and invariable the
answer I get is "because somebody might look at me if I eat by myself."
It's hard not bursting out laughing in their face.

Weird, I often go out to eat alone - it's never occurred to me that
one wouldn't.

Some folks have a phobia or whatever you want to call it about eating alone.
I ask them do THEY look at people, such as staring, who eat alone? The
answer is always no and I tell them people are not going to stare at them
either because they are eating alone. I remind them the chances of those people ever encountering them again is a million to one. Even if they do,
they won't remember them as the person who ate alone.

Oh yeah, it's always nice to have a dining companion but if you have to
eat by yourself it's not a tragedy.

My beautician was squeamish about eating by herself. I told her to walk
into that restaurant like she owned the place. She said the first time
she was a bit timid sitting there eating by herself but now she marches
in like there is an entourage following her. Hahahaaa

I'd rather eat alone than with someone I don't care to be with and
someone I would like to eat with isn't always available when I want to
eat

Yes, quite the mess last night. I'm a bit ****ed off. Don and I (and
daughter) spent a lot of time stacking wood over the last 2 weeks and
the stack fell over when the ground soaked. That was about 32ft of
wood stack. We didn't have it based right with bricks and with all the
rain, they sunk in under the weight of the full racks.

I've had probably thousands of lunch alone when I was on the road. Not
a big deal, you have to eat. OTOH, I've never gone out for fine dining
alone as that i usually a social situation to be shared.

Did it cave in forward like? Or the ends give out? I never went more
than about 15 feet and chimney stacked the ends. Losing a big stack
like that would ps me off.

There have been many occasions when I'd eat out alone, however if
possible I'd choose a tavern that serves good food and I'd eat at the
bar, so I wasn't really anymore alone than everyone else eating alone
at the bar. Occasionally I still do that on days when I don't feel
like preparing food at home and my wife is teaching school. There is
a very nice German tavern in the next town, there are tables and
booths but at the bar there's a big screen TV. Anything on the
extensive menu can be ordered at the bar. At lunch time the bar is
mostly occupied with construction workers and there are interesting
conversations. I don't mind going out to eat lunch alone but I don't
enjoy eating dinner out alone. A lot of people go out to eat lunch
alone but at dinner time at restaurants there are couples and groups
so someone eating alone stands out like a sore thumb/a leper. And
even at taverns, in the evening patrons at the bar are there to get
loaded and are lets say boisterous. At lunch time the construction
workers need to go back to work so maybe they'll have one drink with
their lunch, usually one beer... most just have a soft drink.

No, they don't. I see lots of people eating alone at dinner and I think
nothing of it and seriously doubt anyone else thinks anything about it.

I'm with Wayne there. When working, the others always want me to
come to lunch with them but I never do. I sit in my van and enjoy
the solitude. I've talked to them all morning and will all
afternoon but I want a time-out to be alone and relax at lunch
time. Besides, I don't even eat lunch at work, it's just a long
relaxing (and quiet) break. Works very well for me. :-D
