It seems goofy to me but that's just my opinion based on my very localized culinary experience. It sounds like something people on the mainland would cook back in the 80's. As far as chicken goes, Asians in general consider the breasts to be not desirable as far as meat goes. I don't know why that it is, it just is. Maybe because it's kind of tasteless? |

What I can tell you is that if you're looking for an American style recipe, that certainly sounds authentic in an 80's sort of way. Your alteration sounds like a good one. I'd probably not cook that pineapple for so long but I've never done something like that so who knows. Good luck! |

What I can tell you is that if you're looking for an American style recipe, that certainly sounds authentic in an 80's sort of way. Your alteration sounds like a good one. I'd probably not cook that pineapple for so long but I've never done something like that so who knows. Good luck! == Thanks, it was OK ![]() but use larger pieces of chicken and not put the pineapple in at the start. I might try to make up a sauce from scratch. Any ideas for that? I wasn't looking for an American recipe, it said 'Hawaiian' and I took it as that. Do you have a similar recipe? Those I've had from you have all been very good ... except the 'hot' ones and I won't even try those <g> |

They liked to cook with pre-made sauces and mixes. They'd throw in a can of pineapple and call it "Hawaiian." The only time I cooked with a can of pineapple was to make pineapple upside-down cake. Maybe that should be called Hawaiian upside-down cake. That would suit me just fine. |

A lot of cooking idiots add 'hawaiian' to anything with Pinapple in it. Thats not true. In fact while they grow a fair amount as a cash crop, in 3 years of living there I saw very few recipes actually use it among the locals. I think the most common was on a shish-kabob sort of thing done over an outdoor grill. |
