While I agree in the article's premise --whatever it may be-- PLASTIC is
a major curse. It's everywhere and it's almost impossible to buy
something that is not plastic or cacooned in some sorta plastic.

I'm not a plastic buying person, preferring glass/metal/paper, but I do
NOT believe in 're-cycling'. Most of it gets dumped in landfills, where
all too often it ends up in the ocean. Wanna see something that will
scare you to death?

This is jes the trailer, but the whole movie is worth watching (and is
even scarier!). It's available on Netflix streaming.

There are different kinds of plastics. My city is now participating
in a plastic recycling program with Reynolds. The particular plastic
recycled will be turned into fuel. Our plastic involves things like
candy wrappers, grocery bags, cat/dog food bags, straws, egg cartons,
all the kinds of plastic involved around food that haven't been
recycled before.
OTOH, how does your refusal to participate in recycling address the
gyre at all? It doesn't . Your approach is just lazy and not
participating in being a decent citizen.
Humph!!

I don't 'wholeheartedly' participate, as most plastics mfrs would rather
buy NEW plastic than pay to have the color removed from recyclables. I
DO recycle cardboard, cans, glass, etc, but what is doing the damage to
this planet --PLASTICS!-- is not being addressed.

Plastics (read, BIG OIL) is producing this crap and it is killing this
planet. If yer community has a 100% plastics to energy recycling
burner, go for it, Otherwise, most plastics end up in the ocean.

Did the trailer I posted show how ocean plankton are now consuming
plastic bits that are smaller than they are? PLANKTON!, ferchrysakes!
That means you probably have some plastic "bits" in yer body, right now?

Bah, humbug!!

Do they not have sorters? Here people are paid to sort through the recycle
stuff and weed out things that don't belong.

it's what should be done for all trash as so much can
be composted or burned for energy or recycled into other
materials or reused.

i already know about the changes that have stuck
a lot of places with things they can't recycle.

my comment is more general.
