You know, once I'm dead, I don't care if someone steals my identity and
opens up a bunch of credit cards in my name.

Everybody who is not smart enough to move to a "nice" climate,

Saves on cremation costs. The way I see it, if you're inheriting the house
and the rest of anything of worth, the least you can do is clean out the
stuff after the person dies.

It's smart to move to a nice climate. That doesn't mean everybody else
is stupid, Mrs Scientist.

And can't I just be aggressive?

I take that back! I've just received an e-mail from the motor
association that holds these events. They now allow up to 6 boxes.

When we were in business we discovered that customers thought the
service should be cheaper. They never considered the cost of
machinery and maintenance, employees, insurance, etc. I don't
begrudge the cost of shredding my paper. I'm still getting rid of
stuff from our business. I sure don't want to shred piece by piece

businesses need to retain pertinent records for a number of years for
tax papers. For our personal stuff we also shred daily.
we have a similar shredder

I shred but don't put the shreddings in my garden as most printer ink
is far from organic, it contains heavy metals, as does some newsprint
and most all colored printed matter.
Fortunately most junkmail is printed on one side so I use the blank
side to print my crossword puzzles. And most junk mail is printed on
better paper than most people use at home.

Who gets to define "nice climate"?

We like all four seasons, and snow is no big deal, especially since my
wife is a skier, and I enjoy plowing snow.

My wife is Belizean so she knows rain forest weather well, and I spent
a good five years living in the US south west... we both detest hot
weather dry or wet. We wouldn't live in Florida even if for free. We
had a time share in Florida right near Disney, thinking the grands
would enjoy it, for them once was enough, so we disposed of that
mistake.
Living in Florida is like living in LA. new neighbors every day, no
sense of community. We know people who retired to Florida, not happy
campers.

I think it could be nice. You'd be set up in your chair or desk, in front of a TV or computer with a cup of coffee and all your favorite things nearby.. Then it's all incinerated. Shit man, that's a lot nicer than being stuck in a small box and set afire. Perhaps you can have your cremation an reenactment of the end of "Return of the Jedi" or "The Vikings." That would be totally epic - literally.

It works well here, nice healthy fat worms, so I will continue what I have
done for years. YMMV

I wasn't talking about personal information. My father-in-law had a bunch of records from his military days and his private sector work. That probably should have been destroyed but we sure wasn't going to pay to have that done.

OTOH, one second after you're dead, you won't care if the universe collapses upon itself.

I'm with you, Janet! People don't understand the costs of doing business
and the worst offenders have been people who work for the government. I
wish I had a dollar for every time one of those bozos said: "But you can
write that off!" not understanding that you have earn that money in the
first place. They seem to think that a write-off means that you get
money from the government, not that it's earnings on which you don't pay
taxes.
Take 365 days minus 104 (weekends) -10 (public holidays) -15 (vacation)
-5 (sick) = 231 working days. For a salary of $50k that's $216 per day
or ~$29/hour.
That's just base!!
Add on office overheads, insurances (liability and health are expensive
in the US) depreciation of equipment (those shredding trucks are very
expensive) and $120 is VERY reasonable.

For a company without serious equipment costs, a charge out rate of 2.5
