Default not a potluck

it's a reception that a bunch of people are chipping in items for

I need to come up with some finger food / appetizer type stuff

they are saying 25 pieces but they also say they aren't being very
scientific about it

desserts are the other option, so the finger food should be savory I think

any ideas? I'm at a loss

Stuffed cherry tomatoes.

Cut off the tops, reserve tops. Scoop out the guts with a small spoon or
melon baller. Turn upside down on paper towels to drain while you prepare
the filling. I don't have exact amounts but if you need them there are
recipes online. Mix together some cooked and crumbled bacon, finely sliced
green onions, mayo and a little black pepper. Some recipes have you add
parmesan cheese but I've never tried it that way.

Put a bed of curly parsley on your serving platter. This keeps the tomatoes
from rolling around. Put the drained tomatoes on the parsley. Stuff with the
filling. Put the tops back on and stab with a frilly toothpick.

I made those once. Oddly enough, most of the eaters were Southern and had
never heard of them. Everyone liked them but they would not let up on the
straw part and kept asking me why they were called "straws".

Smoked salon on a dark bread with some cream cheese, topped with some
thinly sliced onion and a few capers. At least half the people will
love it.

Mini quiches.
You can either make the pastry yourself, or buy pre-made cases, and then
fill them with a variety of combinations.

He took the post out of my fingers - easy to do and always popular

I shall defer to your experience in this matter. People don't make that kind of things over here. If we go to parties, someone else always brings one of two things - KFC and sushi. I guess people don't have time to make things like that.

I've never had one until recently. My daughter comes into the room with one of those things. I had no idea how she had come to acquire one of those wonderful treats. It was hot too! I come to find that she cooked some up in the toaster oven in a very short time. The next time I go to a party I'm taking some of those smokey, tasty, treats.

Aaah, who am I kidding? I'll probably just go grab a plate of sushi. I don't have any time to make that or any kind of stuff.

Really common. Fast and easy to make. The problem is few add
condiments like various mustards to use on them. :-(

Same site has a Sweet and Spicy meatball dish. I have done similar
many times. They use pre-made meatballs but I use a lighter spiced
sausage mix of my own. Only 1/2 that bourbon whisky also.

Hi Julie,

It's because they are normally much longer than the picture. Even her
directions have a 3 inch piece. She also got fancy with the cookie
press which isn't standard to see for this old time basic that is more
normally rolled out on wax paper then cut and rolled up a bit (hence
'straw' as it seems to have a hole at the center). Today many make
them more like breadsticks (no hole, just rolled to round 6inch to
8inch pieces).

Lots of them. Here's a simple one that always works if someone else
hasn't cornered it.

Cheese plate but don't get boring. They don't want a selection of Kraft
blocks cut up. Look to the more unique ones to your friends.

I remember one of the most unique at an actual foodie party. He
contrasted low fat and high fat versions of the same types on little
labeled plates. A winner was 'Farmers Cheese' (naturally lower fat)
and another was a very hard cheese that was cave cured and made to
slivers (similar taste to a fresh block of parmesan). A reduced fat
brie (sounds like an oxymoron to me) was a winner but mostly the full
fat cheeses won overall. But, each person found they tolerated the
taste of some of the lower fat versions (or couldnt tell the
difference) depending on their own taste buds. THey were not the same
ones among us.

You would be better served to practice from this video. What you
describe seems boring.
Ina Garten Instagram Recipe Videos - Cheese Platter

or

Simple, easy, attractive. Color for contrast to heighten appeal. A
hard cheese, a soft cheese and perhaps a blue. Any more than that
confuses the palate. Add some crackers or bread and some fruit to
bring balance

I don't know about confusing the palate. When I see a cheese plate I
take the things I know I will like, and it's not as though I put multiple
cheeses on the same cracker. The video is a little more flashy than
informative. Here's one that breaks it down:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql91u7_edX8

Ok this is high on my list. It's a toss up between cheese straws, mini
pizzas, and a cheese plate. I'll have to check to see what others are
brining. (although we all know someone's going to bring those vienna
sausage dogs)

Dolmades
Mini-meatballs (Italian, Turkish, Greek, Swedish, Korean - whatever)
Sushi of any kind
Canapés
Mini-spring-rolls (Vietnamese; readily available in the freezer-section)
Mandu (think small won-ton; same as above), preferably fried
Wraps of any kind
....

Actually you do.You requoted his original post. He never said it was a

I was wondering what I didn't know about potlucks that this didn't
qualify as such. Is it because there was a category specified?

I am hard pressed to understand how this is not a pot luck. It seems
that the request was to provide 25 pieces... of something. She has to
figure out what that will be.

I was just wondering if that disqualified it from being called a
potluck. Just curious, not trying to give tert a hard time.

I don't think a requested catagory matters; could be all appetizers,
all baked goods, all soups, all cheeses, all salads, all pasta dishes,
etc. Probably the easiest is various giant subs.

Your ideas are sound. I made a plate of fried mondoo to take to a party at work. The shop manager said I did good. That was the first time I ever saw him smile. That stuff must be magic. OTOH, crispy gau gee is a lot easier to fold.
