Good news. If it is true that 3-5 drinks per week is good for you I
should be in great shape.

Also, the effects on a 110lb woman would not be the same as on a 200lb man.

In the new world, you're not supposed to think about such things nor
will these releases answer any more questions. Just clear your mind and
click on the next article - everything will go a lot smoother if you do.

I prefer another recent report that said 2 glass of wine a day is hunky dory.

Beats me, but it sounds reasonable. We have a bottle of wine a couple
of nights and a drink another night or two. That's just us. On balance,
I do know people that have 7 a day very often.

?? Plenty like us drink fewer than 7 per week; so do most people I
know. NHS medical advice on intake is dinned in to us pretty hard and
so is Scottish drink-driving law (now has the tightest blood-alcohol
limit in the UK) . It's pretty common now to go to some social event
/party where many guests decline any alcohol; soft drinks only.

Water is big here. It used to be sparkling, but now plain tap water
is preferred by most of my friends.

I thought we were talking about what's in the glass during a social

It is like the articles about the health benefits of coconut. When I
went through cardiac rehab the diet information said to eat lots of
fruit NOT COCONUT in caps. It seems that those you think it is good
for you profit from coconut sales.

Coconut water and oil is trending these days. I find that odd. I never
liked the sour taste of the water but I guess it's harmless enough.
Coconut oil is probably not that great for ones heart - it seems that a
lot of Samoans are dropping dead at an early age from cardiovascular
diseases. OTOH, I will not be the one telling a Samoan to drop that
coconut.

When I was in cardiac rehab they used to play a Hawaiian version of Over
the Rainbow. It was such a lovely, smooth sounding version of the song.
I Googled it and was surprised to see the guy who sang it because it
seemed ironic that the music at a workout like that would be sung by
someone who was so enormously fat. Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole weighed in
at about 750 lb. and died at the age of 38 of weight related problems.
Hell of a singer.

The voice of an angel! Here's my favorite song of his. Oddly enough, it was written by a Vietnamese guy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoRpWEE-E0Q

I just put some taro leaves and pork in the slow cooker. I could have added a can of coconut milk in there and that would have been tasty but I resisted.

He had the voice of an angel and I loved the Hawaiian twist he put on
old standards.

Sounds good!

My slow cooker is doing a red cooked pork with the pork raised up on a
little slotted insert I got ages ago (heck, might have been when I
lived in Hawaii!). This one is using a korean based BBQ sauce so isnt
authentic but DS1 would recognize it.

I am using it a lot. I'll use it until I get sick of it then move on to something else. The question is what's something else?

It's a deconstructed laulau. Only four ingredients - three if you don't count water. Pork butt, salt, taro leaves. Amazingly, it doesn't need anything else.

It doesn't have to be authentic if it's tasty. The red pork is kau yuk AKA, pot roast pork. I don't make it because the preparation is involved. It's pork cooked 3 times. First it's boiled, then it's marinated, then it's braised, then it's steamed. The red color comes from Chinese red tofu but if you ask me, I think they cheat.

Well hopefully it won't be something that you had stashed away for a long
time and have been thinking of giving it away ...

No worries! Ths one would look close enough to the red cooked pork you
see there. Instead of Char Sui sauce, it's a close cousin from Korea.
Bit more heat there so I added some honey for a sweeter mix to bring it
back more.

The boiling is to reduce the fat but we directly marinade (death of
1,000 knives delivered so the marinade seeps in well) then suspend in
crockpot so it's basically steaming and kind of baking at the same time
in a low temp way.

I do the majority of our cooking on the weekend so at the same time I
have korean cross cut beef ribs marinating in shoyu amd jufran bannana
sauce.

On the oven I have 2lb steamed shrimp just finished and waiting to
chill.

Taking a little break then will look over my tomato sauce stocks. I
suspect I am low on pizza sauce and I like best the stuff I make at
home and freeze.

Dunno, but I've used a crockpot since 1978 in one way or another. It's
not my only cookery, but it's up there in my top 4 items used to cook.

You're talking about the other red Chinese meat, char sui AKA Chinese
barbecue pork. I've never made that either but some recipes roast the
pork on hooks in the oven. It's great stuff! Char sui made with Korean
flavorings is going to be great too. My favorite Chinese pork is crispy
pork belly. I've never made it but it's the greatest of the Chinese pork.

The Chinese guy down the street used to make this kind of pork out of
his little shack. A errant automobile smashed into the shack which put
his roast pork operation out of commission. His food shack has been out
of operation for several years but I see the guy around. He says he's
going to build up the shack so he can be in operation again. I sure hope
he does. There was some work done on the building recently and a new
section was added. It looks like the work has stalled. My guess is it's
because he ran out of money. Boy, I know what that's like!

I have had crock pots before - this will probably be my third one. After
a while you sorta run out of new things to make.

The slow cooker makes it easy for me to be even more negligent in the foods I cook. It's fire and forget cooking.

OTOH, my wife texted me saying the laulau is "Epic Crazy Delish." OTOH, she wasn't sure if it was chicken or pork. That's Epic Crazy! BTW, it's pork, and it's spectacular. Hee hee.

I'll have the appliance for a year or two then lose interest in it and move on to something else. I don't get attached to appliances.

Yup! The 'other one'. Knew you'd recognize it. Meantime, I made some
pretty good pizza with some sauce I made last night. I was indeed out
of sauce once I checked.

I had a desire for pizza so made the sauce as i started the dough.

Sauce (much made for use later)

28oz can tomato paste
28oz can tomato sauce
28oz can chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup mixed italian seasoning
7 cloves minced garlic
2 medium minced onions

This is a thick sauce that does well on freezing for smaller dishes.

I have 2 cups of it cooking with home made sausage to add to spagetti
and about 8 cups in the freezer.
