I've been thinking that all along. Put someone nasty with a big mouth in
a group, and you'll get people who'll suck up to them out of a sick
mix of fear and admiration. Interesting processes to observe though

Who in their right mind would be afraid of someone on the Internet?
What a silly statement. LOL

It doesn't make me afraid but they spoil a time I would be happy discussing
food and recipes.

But, it seems one is not allowed to defend oneself. It is also interesting
that people are allowed to be nasty, but the minute you give them a taste of
their own medicine, you are the bad guy.

Crazy place.

True but sometimes boring. It is good when recipes are discussed!

Last famous words (tm by Ophy)

I gave YOU a taste of your own new medicine and now I'm the bad guy.
lol.

Ophy, you turned mean the last few days and not even to me.
I was just getting annoyed with your method.

If you have a problem with someone here, give them hell personally.
Get in a cat fight.

However, the last few days, you posted dozens of messages just saying
bad things about Jill (mainly) and Steve and Mary (I think) and even a
few comments about me.

That's what annoyed me. You rant on and on badmouthing someone else
like they don't read what you are saying. That's cheap-ass gossip. You
were hiding behind someone else's skirt and saying mean things.

As I said... if you want to play the RFC mean game, expect to get
slammed by others.

I don't hate you. You just annoyed me. All is forgiven here and we can
go on but I know damn well that doesn't work with bat-crazy gender.

How about *you* let it go, but I know damn well that doesn't work with the "I
always have to have the last word and get a few more digs in"gender."

Always! As for me, I have said my piece and some here know that if they get
at me they will get it right back! The days are gone when I just ignore it
.... unless it suits me )

If he doesn't like it ... tough!

Don't go sour on me, Cheri. Since I last wrote, you and her posted
several times. I didn't want to be seen as just running away. Just
trying to explain and wrap it up. I NEVER go for the "last word." I
usually let the other person have that rather than continue an ongoing
argument. No man has ever "won" an argument with a woman.

OT: Speaking of women in my life. Yesterday I was going through about
5 days of old newspapers. I read them briefly then ferretize them for
rodent pooping.

Anyway, I saw that an old girlfriend of mine died last Friday. Haven't
talked to her in a few years but never thought to see something like
that. She was such a nice person and I couldn't help but remember all
the times we shared together years ago. It's not fair that such a nice
person died so young. God's real name is Robert, I'm convinced. ;0

That is because you are relatively sane, unlike some of the crackpot
attention whores that make total asses of themselves, get a lot of nasty
responses and then whine that people are picking on them. The people
they really need to fear are themselves. There have been more than a few
suicides by insecure people who said and did things they should not
have in social media and rather than disconnecting from the net or
shutting off the computer they killed themselves.

LOL, to me nothing is funnier than the "meet and beat" threats in newsgroups. If
someone is actually afraid of that, well.....

Yes, that's nonsense, but I constantly see people sucking up to loud
mouths and bullies. I think that's motivated by fear.

Yes, fear that they might be bullied instead. There is a lot of that around
here. I've had plenty and the nastiness can be unpleasant, in fact I have
had quite a lot here ... ))

Maybe not always funny. Back about 1988 I used to post quite
innocently with my real name and real e-addy. Next thing was a
stalker, the emails were horrible. I was living alone in a large
house, isolated, on the coast. It did scare me.

Some of the others on the group managed to track him down and find out
who he was, I was reassured he didn't have a vehicle and couldn't
drive but also later on I gathered he had a visit to put him off
Just the same it was a very nasty feeling.

I changed ISP and changed name to LB and never altered back.

So you never know until it happens.

I think only the Boner troll is really crazy in this newsgroup,
but you never know, indeed.

Similar happened to a woman posting to a particular Australian
newsgroup back in the early 2000s. She was stalked and harassed by a
guy who had visited her home, he described her property in detail
(this was before google earth or street view) so it wasn't just talk.

He certainly had issues, supposedly a big tough guy who liked to
terrify a woman in her sixties... or at least he tried to. He also
tried to stalk and find me, because at that point I turned on him.

Several other people during that decade also got the same treatment.
In fact, the guy in question used to be a regular here on RFC.
