Yeah right....not at all. It's 75 early here and expected to go over
80F if the sun stays out. I'm baking my christmas cranberry/apple bread again today. Only reason I'm using the oven is because all my windows and doors are open for ventilation. Heat like like this really does kill the Christmas spirit to me. I'm so glad I didn't plan to cook the whole turkey meal like I've usually done on this day. Bah Humbug! :-D I've put the corn chowder on hold for a few days. Need a few more ingredients so I might as well wait until I buy them tomorrow rather than make it today without. It will be much cooler on Monday so I might wait until then. The little rodent one is all fed and happy for now. ![]() |

There was that Christmas in California when we went to a tree farm and cut us down a pine. What they don't tell you is that the tree is loaded with critters and when you bring that tree into your house, the heat makes the vermin abandon ship. It still gives me the creeps to think those bugs crawling away from that tree in all directions. Damn tree farm! |

The snow had just stopped and the sanding trucks hadn't been around yet. It was a sure thing for black ice at the very least. All agencies were working full bore yesterday rescuing people and hauling vehicles away from wrecks. Because of the wet snow for a start continuing on into low temperatures, trees and shrubs are fully white and bowed. In this coming 7 days we are looking at temperatures as low as 8F. Skiers are happy. Janet US |

The SA is one of the better charities for actually helping people with minimal overhead. I know people that have benefited from them when they were in the service. I donate to them a couple of times a year. |

We did have snow yesterday while I was at my brothers. We didn't see it as we were in the basement and no windows to see out of. But Angela did find traces of it on Sparkley's back window as we were getting ready to leave. Thankfully I put the turkey in sooner than I needed to as husband came home an hour early. The rest of the stuff was all pretty quick to fix though. I just wasn't wanting to make dinner right then as I had other things to do. Bah! I haven't eaten yet. Not hungry. But they're not complaining so I guess I did well. Did screw up the potatoes but it was an easy fix. Since neither of them likes mashed very well but both want a little to eat with their turkey, I bought a pouch of the instant that needs nothing but water. But I had Angela read the packet and I thought she said to use 4 cups of water. It was only two! I didn't think it looked right as I was pouring it into the bowl, considering the size of the pouch. Luckily by then, I had a burner freed up so I just dumped it into a pan, added more milk and butter and some plain instant ones. |

I went out on back porch early this morning and noticed > that the upstairs neighbors were running their AC. My garage has been overly damp and I don't know why. We have had a bit of a dampness problem since we moved in but it got worse. I had two little rechargeable units that I keep near the onions and potatoes but I was actually seeing standing wetness in there on the top of the barstool and the lip of a trash can. I thought at first that somebody had dripped water or something but, no. Got a tiny electric dehumidifier. Was inexpensive and it works great! I have to empty it every 3-5 days and I think it holds about 1.5 cups of water. I shudder to think of how often I would have needed to empty that in our house on Cape Cod. We had a huge until there and I had to empty it once or twice a day. |

It still gives me the creeps to think those bugs crawling away from that tree in all directions. Damn tree farm! --- I have a friend in India and they got snow there one year. He said people were freaking out because they had no clothing that was suitable. And no heat in their houses. It's not normally that cold there. All they could do was layer up with as many pieces of clothing they could find and wrap in blankets but going to work was horrible. Most go there on foot or bicycle and they mostly have open toed shoes. And I'll never forget the day trip we took to Vancouver BC, forgetting that their weather is generally 10 degrees cooler than it is here. We were shocked to see snow on the ground. And we hadn't brought coats. Only light jackets. It also snowed on our wedding day in Reno. I'd never been there in April before and wasn't expecting the cold weather. I didn't have a formal dress, just an ivory colored suit which thankfully had long sleeves. But my legs froze as we had to stand or walk outside a bit to get the marriage license and such. We did get a limo ride to the chapel. |

Run doggies run! ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-SHcpdEYnM --- The problem is that most of the places here do not do any sort of snow or ice removal. And it's very hilly. They do try to clear the major bus routes at least in Seattle. But if you live in the suburbs, forget it! I pitched a fit last year when we celebrated my SIL's birthday. Where my mom move to, is at the top of a steep hill and you have to make a sharp turn to get there. It's also a narrow driveway and on the best of days, an accident waiting to happen if another car is coming up or down. Worse still, the installed a security gate last year which is supposed to keep the homeless people out. I fail to see how it would because they were living in the woods along the property and not driving through the gate. Sheesh. They also designed the building poorly in that they put the coffee shop just inside the main door. So a person could quickly walk in there and grab a self serve drink or some food and leave with it before anyone could stop them. Anyway... It snowed on that day and I said that we would not be coming over. SIL insisted that we come. Would not be bad. Well, it was bad. I did not have trouble but we saw plenty of others who did. I do try not to drive in the snow but I know enough that if I have to, to go slowly and not try to have to rely on my brakes to stop me. Of course, going up a hill is another matter. |

My sister-in-law made a big deal about going up the hill to the church where we had our celebration. I was thinking why the heck was she going on and on about a damn hill. Hee hee. We did not have any trouble because we had good old American AWD. I did, however, tell my son to keep his foot pressed on the brake when going down. It looked a little "slippery." Ha ha, daddy gives good advice... The church was a landmark on the way to Steven's Pass on route 2 because it was so conspicuous - being on a hill and all. |

I haven't had parsnips for years...on my Dad's farm we had them plus rutabagas. I hope your not coming down with the flu...its going around here like wildfire. Take care and hope you start the New Year feeling better. Cheers!!! ===== |

I use parsnips same as I do bay leaves, an excellent flavoring herb for soups and stews but I don't eat them. Can't make a proper chicken soup without a parsnip but afterwards it goes in the composter, I think the texture of parsnips is disgusting. |

I've had a virus which is hanging on although I am improving. There has been a lot of it around it seems. I have seen those multi bird roasts before but have never fancied them much. This year was different because it was easy. I have turkey crowns in the freezer which was meant for Christmas but I guess I will get around to them sooner or later ![]() Parsnips are only good when well roasted and caramelised. I put the leftovers into a stew and it wrecked the stew ![]() and they are very good. I always have one in. Hope you had a good Christmas with plenty of nice things to eat and have a wonderful 2016 ![]() -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |
