![]() I've been looking at oil filters for deep fry oil (among other things). I finally took a chance on these: http://tinyurl.com/lbd7hv2 Wow! Strained a quart of peanut oil in less than 2 mins. This was oil with a lotta corn meal crud in it (catfish, donchya know). Not a problem. Does NOT clog up and stop like coffee filters. Clean up? A joy. I jes dropped it into a large bowl, w/ hot water and soap, I had soaking in the sink. Mushed it up and dwn a cpl times, rinsed with hot water from spray hose, then inverted in the drainer to dry. I can't tell if they are made of paper or cloth, but they are very rugged and can be washed and reused. I may never use the other 9 filters! ![]() TIP: buy one of these to hold the filter and oil: <http://www.amazon.com/Cuisipro-12-5-Inch-Cone-Shaped-Strainer/dp/B00004SU1K> Much better than the $20 funnel they offer. Besides, this strainer is VERY FINE "double mesh", which makes it a great "final step" strainer for sauces, drinks, and other liquids. I should mention the strainer is only about half the size of the oil filters, but will still hold almost 1/2 gal. If you need to filter more oil than that, you might look for another funnel. Like these: <http://www.amazon.com/Cuisipro-12-5-Inch-Cone-Shaped-Strainer/dp/B00004SU1K> I was gonna buy one of these, but remembered my cone strainer in storage and dug it out. It's definitely a multi-tasking strainer. A hand held cone-style food mill would be a good choice, also. ![]() nb |
