Hopefully the price will come down and if it doesn't, it will be a great price when they put it on sale. -- Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them. |

Is that the one with the stylized picture of the egg on the label, but contains no eggs? And "is also available with preservative."[sic] Basically eating oil, lemon juice and vinegar. (with optional preservative) My guess is it's Just Mayo because they can't legally call it mayonnaise. What makes it worth the premium price? |

The shelf stable squeeze bottle, $1.99. Shelf stable jar, $3.99 on sale. The refrigerated jar which I think is smaller, $5.49 I think. |

They initially jumped into the market of "low impact on the environment" foods by developing an egg substitute called Beyond Eggs. That product's secret ingredient is pea protein. The pea protein enables foods made with it to most closely resemble foods made with eggs in terms of texture and such. So in Just Mayo, the pea protein is serving as the egg replacement. It took top score (even beating out genuine mayo) in Serious Eats taste test: "We tasted all of the mayonnaises completely blind both plain (with french fries for dipping), and in our Classic Potato Salad. As with our regular mayonnaise taste test, we asked tasters to evaluate each brand on a number of criteria, including creaminess, sweetness, tanginess, and overall preference, along with taking detailed notes on texture and flavor. Here's the big shocker: Our winning egg-free mayo, Just Mayo, fared better than the conventional mayo." http://www.seriouseats.com/2014/02/v...g-results.html |

I bought it mainly because it's non-GMO, gluten free, soy free and has recognizable ingredients. I'm not all that crazy about the modified food starch, but you can't have everything. I don't use mayo that much and I usually make my own but it gets old before it's all used up, so having this on hand is great. koko -- Food is our common ground, a universal experience James Beard |
