Default The BEST peanut butter sandwich?

I was just thinking . . . a beginning that brings fear to most who know me
.. . . but tonight I was assembling peanut butter sandwiches. Finally, it is
spring here and being outside is more fun than cooking anything. I thought:
peanut butter plus strawberry jam might be good. Peanut butter plus sliced
fresh strawberries might be even better. What is your notion of the ultimate
peanut butter sandwich? What bread and what else? Let your hair down and
don't try to impress us. We were impressed years ago. Polly

The *best* peanut butter sandwich is open face, topped with
marshmallow fluff and run under the broiler (on lightly toasted
bread).

Use hearty wheat bread like this--
http://brownberry.com/products/slice.../natural-wheat
Use decent peanut butter that contains NOTHING other than peanuts and salt,
like this--
http://www.smuckers.com/products/pea...atural-peanut-
butter/natural-creamy-peanut-butter-65
My son is partial to adding freshly sliced strawberries and honey.

PB sandwiches pair well with cold whole milk.

Has to be soft white bread. Crunchy peanut butter with dill pickle slices
or pure fruit strawberry spread. Used to eat American cheese on them.

Just did that for lunch, with homemade jam (of course). Mine was open
faced because I don't want my peanut butter flavor hidden by too much
bread.

"To taste" - lightly toasted for me.

Creamy peanut butter and strawberry or peach preserves. The sandwich
must be cut along both diagonals to make four little triangles. I like
the occasional peanut butter and banana sandwich, too.

I like peanut butter and thinly sliced banana on a lightly toasted nutty
bread. Accompanied with a glass of ice cold milk.

I'm willing to try marshmallow on peanut butter but it's going to be a real
challenge to even think about peanut butter with dill pickles. Maybe with a
fine wine ... or napalm.

No, no, no... it's bananas (a pretty darned good combo) OR pickles
(which is an acquired taste, but once you have it - you wonder how you
ever had negative thoughts on the subject). Not sure if you need to
pair sweet or salty peanut butter with one or the other. To be
perfectly honest - I never gave it much thought when I ate those
things, because I was just a kid at the time.

My 3 favorites are toasted white or multi grain bread, spread the
peanut butter on as soon as they pop out so it melts. Eat it while
still warm

#2 take the above and add some good jam or preserves on top
#3 No jam, but a thin slice or 2 of swiss cheese

All 3 options are just one slice of toast...open sandwich snacks.

A toasted bagel with peanut butter and strawberry preserves.
All washed down with a tall, cold glass of ice cold milk!
Followed with a few Bud Lights.

In an adventurous mood one day I tried Julie's suggestion of peanut
butter with dill pickles. I managed to eat the whole sandwich, but I
don't think I'll be having another. It must be an acquired taste.

I'm going to have to try that marshmallow fluff under the broiler thing,
though. (-:

When I was growing up, the ultimate PB&J was crunchy PB and Concord
grape jelly on untoasted white "balloon" bread, cut on a diagonal,
precisely from one corner to the opposite corner. None of those tilted
diagonals for us.

Sometimes we would substitute strawberry or pinecot jam, other times we
would stir some Karo and PB together, then spread that on white bread.
PB and sliced bananas were rare, but welcomed, sometimes with honey. On
very special occasions there would be PB and banana on toasted raisin bread.

We never had "The Elvis": PB, bacon and overripe banana on buttered
white toast.

These days, my favorite is crunchy PB, lightly salted, on multigrain
bread, the darker and chewier, the better. No sweetener for the PB.

One last mention: PB on hot toasted marble rye, hot sauce (I prefer
Mezzetta's Habanero sauce) and a hard fried egg sandwich. I really like
this.

How about a dense bread like pumpernickel and celery slices (the long
way) piled on top of a thick layer of peanut butter.

I like the same deal, except top with swiss cheese, ten top brown in my toaster over. It's a quick emergency meal for me.

I've never owned marshmallow fluff......

I didn't like peanut butter back in the days when it stuck to the roof
of your mouth... but I changed my mind after they fixed that problem.

I don't like peanut butter sandwiches but I do like peanut butter in
oriental cooking... and I often make up oriental dressings that
contain peanut butter.

Those are actually one of the few cookies that I like. I just don't like it
cooked in savory things.
