When I was growing up, the ultimate PB&J was crunchy PB and Concord
grape jelly on untoasted white "balloon" bread, cut on a diagonal,
precisely from one corner to the opposite corner. None of those tilted
diagonals for us.

Sometimes we would substitute strawberry or pinecot jam, other times we
would stir some Karo and PB together, then spread that on white bread.
PB and sliced bananas were rare, but welcomed, sometimes with honey. On
very special occasions there would be PB and banana on toasted raisin bread.

We never had "The Elvis": PB, bacon and overripe banana on buttered
white toast.

These days, my favorite is crunchy PB, lightly salted, on multigrain
bread, the darker and chewier, the better. No sweetener for the PB.

One last mention: PB on hot toasted marble rye, hot sauce (I prefer
Mezzetta's Habanero sauce) and a hard fried egg sandwich. I really like
this.
