Below is a link to podcast of the the most recent episode of This is
That, a very clever CBC radio comedy show with parody news interviews.
In this one, a man is talking about suing a cook book on behalf of his
grandmother for having stolen her recipes.

That's too funny! It's about as frivilous a lawsuit as you'd hear of in
the US.

This is That is one of the best things of radio. They do faux interviews
on all sorts of topics. They even have supposed listeners calling in to
comment. One episode was about a lawsuit originating in the US over
Manitoba wind farms using American wind. One was about a national park
planning to charge tourists for wildlife sightings, with a sliding
scale, so seeing a grizzly bear would be about $100 while a squirrel
sighting was only about $5. One of my favourites was about a town in
northern Ontario having a downtown skating party that invovlved flooding
the main street to make a skating rink, but someone left the water
running and when the temperature dropped to -30 everything downtown was
shut down due to the ice. Parked cars were in ice almost to the tops of
their doors and downtown stores could not open their doors. They tried
hair dryers but the stuff was freezing again almost as fast as it was
melting.

This is That is an excellent current affiars parody radio show with
phony interviews about phony issues. They even have phoney listener
comments. Most of them are so well done that they almost sound real.

Last weeks episode was about an educator who wants to ban childrens
books with talking animals because children develop expectations that
animals should be able to speak. Previous programs have talked about
laws requiring people to rake up tree leaves on their neighbours' lawns,
the military going green and buying bicycles, a university swim teams
bathing suits being too sexy, a group of 50 people getting lost in a
corn maze.

You can listen to the podcasts or download them to a iPod or MP3 player.

That is hilarious.

I used to tell people that I objected to Barney because it taught children
to trust dinosaurs.

My wife is a children's librarian, and one of the first censorship
complaints she got was from a patron that objected to the Carl the Dog
books.

This person was concerned that other, less intelligent parents might be
left with the impression that it was OK to leave your baby in the care of
the family dog.

My mother was a great cook with most things but fish was a major fail,
so I never cared much for fish when I was young and didn't know much
about cooking it. Years later I started trying fish dishes in
restaurants and got some ideas about what to do with it. I now eat fish
once or twice a week.

Good restaurants are a great source of at-home cooking ideas. If you
train your senses your tongue is probably as sensitive as a gas
chromatograph, so even the most subtle spice profile need not remain a
mystery.

It's a tragedy when an ill-prepared dish turns off a person to the same
food in the future. I've re-converted several people into liver eaters
by presenting well-prepared liver dishes. I have never had properly
prepared liver prepared by another person at home in my life, and only
rarely (and only at the fanciest eateries) have I had a proper liver
eating out. It's a shame, liver is not only one of the healthiest and
most nutritious meats, it is also sublime in flavor and texture.

Well, I am laughing. I had just scanned the content of this post ere I
left to get something, and even before I came back, read more carefully
and saw this was a parody, I was thinking of why this suit would be
stupid. Now, having heard it, I think my theory is correct.
