Default I was looking at this online shopping list so I could make mine

I was making a list to carry to the store. I was using this page as a
reminder.

This category column gave me a little laugh.

You don't just write things down as you need them (or plan for them)?
I have a roll of adding machine paper that I use for my shopping list.

I am lazy. To me it is easier to keep one big list of common items I
always use and delete the stuff I don't plan to buy. Print the small
list.

I usually sit down once a week and plan out what I will be making for the
week. I make several lists. One for each store I am going to. Sometimes I
will add an item to more than one list with a question mark. I do this
because I am not sure if that store carries the item or if it will be a good
price at that store.

I am leaving soon to go to Albertsons. Am mainly getting ingredients that I
don't have for the enchiladas I am making. I do have most of the stuff.
And husband wants some cherries! I think he is finally realizing that diet
might indeed affect it.

But I will be going to Winco later in the week because they have the best
prices overall. They are further away though so I don't go there often and
when I do go, I try to stock up on the non-perishables. I am getting to the
point of needing more tomato sauce and canned beans.

Once in a while I will make a list on my computer. I only do this when I am
really low on food. In that case I take the same list to every store and
just cross things off as I buy them. But it is much easier and quicker to
tailor my lists to the specific stores. I write things down in the order in
which they are kept in the store.

Oh, god NO! I would never devote that amount of time and effort to a
organizing a grocery list.... or in your case a set of grocery lists.
I'm capable of looking at mine and figuring out which items can be
found in the aisle I'm on at the time. If I need to go somewhere else
for a certain item, the asterisk is in my head - not on a separate
piece of paper.

But I shop at a lot of stores in any given week! So I need the individual
lists. I also make notes if I have coupons for the items.

We are old fashioned, I guess.

We keep a pad and pencil on the kitchen table. Whenever one of us sees
that we need something, or we see an advertised item that we might want
to stock up on... we write it on the list. If we get a craving for
something... write it on the list. When we go shopping, we can split
the items up into sub-lists for each store.

We have 3 main stores we shop at... HEB, Aldi's and Sam's. We usually
go to 2 stores during a shopping trip.

Wow, too much work, too much structure. We make a list maybe three
times a year when we are doing something out of the ordinary and need
specific ingredients. We never plan meals ahead. Sometimes the
decision is made the night before, other times it is made about time
dinner should be cooking.

When shopping, we buy what looks good at the time and may be
influenced by a good sale.

Major shopping is done once a month at BJ', but at least once or twice
a week we fill in items at the local supermarket, especially for
produce, milk, bread.

I understand; that's the way I shop too. When I say I make a list, I
mean I make a list of the things I don't buy regularly but like to
have on hand at all times... like thyme, baking powder or foil.

I do vary what I do. When Angela and I were here alone, I didn't
necessarily have to make big lists or plan much. She likes what she likes
and I like what I like. As long as I bought those things, we were good.
Exception would be if I had to plan meals on the road. But now with husband
home, that has all changed. Now I do have big lists and I do have to plan at
least his meals out. It's always nice when I can make a meal we can all eat
but that doesn't usually happen.

I mainly have to be careful with the fresh stuff like produce. Yes,
sometimes I can freeze that stuff if I bought too much. But if I don't plan
for things like salad, then I either won't have any or I'll be throwing some
out.

I do that too. We always go to Winco with an open mind. We might have a
few things on our list that we are out of but... They do not normally have
advertised sales so you just never know what bargains they might have that
day.

I used to go to Costco weekly but I have been cutting back on that. Might
be able to do it more this summer. I can get my bread there for $2 less per
loaf but... I also have to factor gas in. If that bread is all I will be
buying (and it sometimes is) then it's not worth driving out there.

I keep a notebook. Never go anywhere without it. Memory is getting awful,
I sometimes wonder if I ought to write my name in it ...

LOL! I always start making a grocery list on Wednesdays when the weekly
sale ads show up in the newspaper. I normally shop on Saturday morning so I
have a few days to make a list from the ads plus what I need otherwise.

I often forget to take the list but by writing it down, I can often
rememeber most of it. If I forget something, I'll go the next
morning...only .8 miles

I constantly forget things even with a list! I find that I do far better
shopping on my own. When someone is with me, they create distractions and
sometimes I forget that I was headed over to get milk or something. Even
when I double and triple check my list, I won't notice that I forgot
something. When I shop alone, unless I am just going for one or two items,
I tend to go up and down every aisle. Yes, I will pick up things that I
didn't intend to but I am also much more likely to not forget anything.

I've gone through the years of training myself to remember the list
and I'm pretty good at it now. Sitting down and actually writing a
list doesn't work for me. I need to write it down as I run out or
know I will need for some recipe I plan to make soon.

If I had a smart phone, I'd figure out how to keep my grocery list on
that because I often drop by the store on a whim after being out doing
something else... which means I don't have my list with me.

But then you'd run the risk of becoming one of those "smart" phone
zombies, wandering around in a trance and bumping into people because
they can't take their eyes off the screen.

I see it is free. Must one buy the 'unlocker' mentioned below to make it
work?

I jot down items on paper. I pretty much always realize what I need to
restock. But I write it down.

I tried a spreadsheet list but it was too silly to maintain. I simply
write things down as I notice what is running low. Call me a
curmudgeon. It works.

I have a smart phone but I can't be bothered to mess with all that. At
least not so far. I write down what I need, too. Paper list for me in
the store!

My dad was a huge list maker before the senility set in. He was also one of
the first people to get a home computer. He and my brother kept telling me
to get one. But at the time I couldn't see why I would need one. He said
that he took care of his checking account on it (no Internet in those days)
and kept track of his coupons. I had to shake my head at that one.
Sometimes people make things harder than they need to be!

I frequent a couponing website and people will take the time to enter in all
of the ads from the various stores each week and also all of the coupons
that are currently available. That can be nice for the rest of us but...
You won't catch me listing all that stuff off!

Sounds like you don't use it. No land line or VOIP phone here and
we're paying $90 just for two dumb phones with a grandfathered in
minute plan that we share.

Ours was $130 for unlimited on two dumb ones. Only went up $20 a month for
two smarts and will be about another $10 when we are eligible for the third.
Angela uses hers more than I use mine, mainly because I am driving when we
are out. But she has been able to access the Internet and that saved me a
trip from having to go home.

Tracfone has a deal now for a LG smart phone $49.95 with triple
minutes for life. You buy whatever size minutes you want.
http://www.tracfone-orders.com/bpdir... nId=19412386
http://tinyurl.com/bwrt76d

Since you live relatively close to me, it may be available in your
area. How many minutes do you use on average? Price it out on the
Tracfone site. Unused minutes accumulate forward.

Is that for unlimited data, texting and voice minutes?

I was astounded that ours didn't go up all that much. Used to cost an arm
and a leg. But Sprint lowered the cost for unlimited.

No, it's for only using the phone for an emergency. The main use is
to use the stuff a smartphone can do for free. The phone uses the ATT
wireless network so I don't not even have a data package. Lots of
places furnish WiFi. That is the only time I can use the phones WiFi
for free. The phone automatically connects to my WiFi at home so that
is free too.

I use the phone as a music player, camera, timer, alarm, calculator,
voice recorder and just a few apps that don't have to be connected to
the Internet to work.

I get a kick out of viewing the International Space Station a few
times a month when we are out at the lake. The app is called ISS
Detector.

My d-i-l has a shopping list app for her smartphone - she finds it very
useful.

I do too. I can either scan the item and it will be added to the list,
or I can use the voice feature. I'd be lost without my iPhone.

Good heavens! Is the scanner part of an 'ap'? Forgive me, my phone is new
and I am still a bit lost in 'Ap land'!

Just about every supermarket web site offers a shopping list feature.

But isn't it just for their store?

I should learn how to do that.
