They used to do that at Weis market in PA. I didn't know that and was just picking stuff up to buy. When I went to check out, I couldn't. Had to go back to a little station in the produce department. This was at the start of when they started putting the little stickers on the produce. But now you can easily check out at the self check with your produce. You just put it on the scanner where it automatically weighs it and you use the touch screen to put in what you bought. Of course someone could enter in the code for something cheaper and hope they don't get caught! |

But I tend to use coupons, buy clearance items, buy produce or a plant. Used to buy flowers. I've been told that it's best not to use self check with those things. |

I didn't think I wanted one. Then my husband kept saying he would get one. So I said at first jokingly, "We will all have them!" And now that I do have one, I can see why I need it. But... We also really couldn't afford them prior. It is only since Sprint dropped their rates that we can. |

My brother finally did get them some things akin to the Jitterbug. I guess it is good that they do have them for emergencies and now it is the only way my dad could get a hold of us but... They never turn them on unless they are using them! That's annoying because we can not reach them. My mom doesn't always answer her home phone and rarely checks her e-mail. I am thinking that my mom might want a smart phone because she seemed impressed with ours. She just got an Ipad. |

He just was not of the computer generation. He was a mechanical whizz. He could do most trade work... electrical, body work, masonry, woodworking, plumbing, automechanics. He had been an aircraft mechanic during the war and then trained for aircrew and got his wings. But dammit, at that age he just could not get the hand of computers. Every time he had to write a letter I would have to hop in the car and drive 15 miles to their house to guide him through it. After he died and my mother moved into a condo we set the computer up in her spare room but I don't think she ever touched it. |

My brothers and I collectively groaned... 1300 miles away we could just imagine the phone calls asking us to try to figure out what he'd done. LOL Dad was very smart. He had a degree in Engineering and was a math wiz. A computer simply would have been beyond his ken. (Besides which, he couldn't type.) My mother put her foot down. She said it would just be one more thing for her to dust. ![]() Jill |

She said it would just be > one more thing for her to dust. ![]() When Angela and I first got our Iphones, both of my parents grabbed them and began poking at things. Neither of them had a clue what they were doing but they still kept poking! My dad almost deleted some apps. And my mom was trying to log onto the game center because she thought she was supposed to. Just floored me that they would start messing around with them and not have a clue. I can see looking at something and trying to figure it out. But to be blindly poking at things like that? Gah! My brother was constantly having to clean up their computers. Especially my dad's. For the longest time he would click on any link, banner, whatever. And download stuff without verifying if it was safe. My mom mainly just reset her home page. But at some point she was sending out weird messages from her Facebook late at night. It wasn't her doing it of course. Just had her name on the messages. When I told her that I was pretty sure her account was hacked and that she needed to change her password she just got all angry and indignant and had someone delete her account. She originally got it to converse with her aunt. But she never could figure out how to use it, despite Angela and I trying to show her repeatedly. What really gets me is how she used to constantly brag about being a straight A student and how she loved school and wanted to go back. I had a hard time imagining this when she couldn't even listen and pay attention to us long enough to do something as simple as figure out Facebook. Yes, I know at times some things were complicated. For a while, I struggled to put pics on there. And they do keep changing things. But she couldn't even figure out how to scroll down! |

My mom kept saying how she wanted a smart phone because she's always only ever used tracfones. Then I told her how much I pay a month for mine and she changed her mind. She's mentioned before that she'd like to have an iPad, too, but I can't imagine what she'd do with it. She uses her laptop in the kitchen which is the only place she'd even use a computer at all. I think she just hears about someone else having one and wants one too. -- CAPSLOCK–Preventing Login Since 1980. |
