I don't think I've seen him do any cooking but I can not stand that show that you mentioned. They seem to feature what I call "big food" and I can't stand the stuff. Big portions of greasy, gloppy, cheap food. |

On the other side of this discussion, one thing we really lack in cooking shows is a chef who does good seafood. I thoroughly enjoy Ban Sargent's program, "Hook, Line & Dinner" on the cooking channel: http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/chefs/ben-sargent.html He sort of reminds me of Bruce Springsteen with a sunnier disposition. |

As for being an "idiot"...who's laughing all the way to the bank, you or him? I also salute him for his efforts, bot here an in the UK, to promote better school food choices. I don't find a lot of artifice in the man, just caring and creativity. |

I haven't seen him for a long time but I didn't mind him. Now I thought of another one. Rick Bayliss. Although I like him on some levels and even bought his book there is something just a little "blah" about his personality. And also Pati from Pati's Mexican table. Love her food. Hate her accent. |

Heston Blumenthal.
I know he's got an OBE and three Michelins but I find him unwatchable and completely irrelevant to anything having to do with the "real" world of cooking. -- Bob www.kanyak.com |

Maybe not such an idiot after all ![]() Really? Jamie Oliver is one of my favorite chefs. I don't see him often but he seems like a really good chef...down to earth with no tv gimicks...and he definitely knows what he's doing...great recipes. SF mentioned his speech problem. WTH? I've never noticed one. He has a distinct UK accent but that's all. G. |

I didn't like Oliver in "Naked Chef". (Even Oliver said he hated the name.) I think the first of his shows that really hooked me was "Jamie at Home". His travel shows in Italy and the US made me a dedicated fan. -- Bob www.kanyak.com |

Bobby Flay can't say his "L"s right. I'm always like... No! Don't say blue corn tortillas! And then he does. And then I cringe. It's the weirdest thing. It's like it starts to say the "L". Almost says it but then it comes out more like a "W" but not quite. I can only reproduce that sound if I stick my tongue out when I speak. And he doesn't do that. And Anne Burrell can have difficulty with "R"s. She was on that show with Bobby where they had "recruits". But when she said the word, it came out like "reecwoots". Clearly she can say the "R" sometimes but not always. The two of them drove me up a wall with their incorrect pronunciations. |
