Ever been? Brazilian bbq theme.

I went to the one in Fairfax VA. $40 flat fee for a dinner. An
AMAZING array of appetizers, salads, etc (salmon, artichokes, way
more).

Then, once seated, you get a wooden dowell ~3" long, one end green,
one red. Place the green side up, and multiple gouchos apprear
sequntially with an amazing variety of meats on a skewer: filet
mignon, sirloin, flank steak (my fav), pork, turkey, chicken, sausage,
lamb, I forget what else. They give you a little tong and as they
slice it off the skewer you grab it onto your plate. When you're
about to puke, you turn the dowel red-side up and the guachos back off
a bit. Then, you turn the green side up, and the gouchos reappear.

A good scarfing/dining experience.

Thanks a lot for the report. Never been there but heard about it. The servers wear gaucho pantaloomies seems like. Really ****es me off. Rational folks dont like it apparently.

These are called churrascaria in Brazil. Seems we always have from 1
to 3 operative in Orange County, CA.

There is one near here called Agora. They have an incredible salad bar
and you can get a one-plate load for 10 bucks or something. We buy a
cocktail and then get a plateful of smoked salmon, shrimp and other
stuff, plus a bowl of feijoada. But they also have all kinds of great
and curious Brazilian salads. I have an old Brazilian cookbook with a
vast catalog of salads. Even without the meat, which is good, these
places have great eating.

Ours also included duck, I recall.

Upscale Argentine and Peruvian restaurants here serve plates/tapas.
See if one of your Brazilian restaurants does that.

As a big Brazilian fan (of food/music/movies/lit), I'm of the opinion
that big loads of meat are still de rigueur among Brazilians. They may
have come upon a nouvelle approach, but I don't think so.

Actually, I think small plates of interesting Brazilian food would be a
great idea.

I do too! Maybe they'll come around someday. We really enjoy
ordering the "small plates" and sharing.

Niagara Falls Canada has a place exactly like this. My wife and I
enjoyed it.

The BBQ Pineapple is something else.

Texas de Brazil is good, but I think Fogo de Chao is better. I've been
to Fogo in Addison, San Antonio, Chicago, Atlanta and Beverly Hills and
every location was perfect.

A few tips:

- It's not "all you can eat", it's "all you need to eat". Slow down and
savor the food and don't overdo it. It's not Golden Corral, don't try to
stuff yourself until you need to visit the ER.

- Go "green" for just long enough to get at most two different
selections on your plate, then go "red" and take your time eating before
they get cold. Rest a minute or two and contemplate your next selection
before going "green" again. You can ask any of the passing waitstaff to
send the guy with a particular meat in your direction.

- The waitstaff can also get you extra sauces, horseradish, chimmichuri,
etc. Chimmichuri is my favorite. They even have mint jelly to go with
the lamb, but I never let mint near lamb.

- The papaya cream dessert is not just tasty, it contains papain enzymes
from the papays which will help you digest your meal.

Fogo here in DC is good. It's also way overpriced unless you plan to pig
out.

My usual companions for Fogo visits have been 200 lb. powerlifters
(people capable of squatting and deadlifting 500 lbs or so). It's
definitely worth it for them. I've only been two or three times but
have thoroughly enjoyed each visit.

I love Fogo. Wish there was one closer. We will be in Arlington, TX in
July for Yankee series and I plan on eating at the one in the DFW area.

Similar to Texas de Brazil are Fogo do Chao and Rodizio.
We've been to all three over the years. The major difference
is the number and type of sides on the buffet

They are fun for a group. Healthwise too much meat, probably
too much salt, but once every few years it's a treat.
