Default Orange-flower water - best source?

At least one Indian grocery I checked at didn't have it. Should I be searching for Mideastern stores instead, or what?

One thing I use it for is baked custard - but it's good for sprinkling over fruit salad too. With rose water and maybe a little sugar.

It's plastered all over the internet. Normal people want to buy
things in person.

Well I don't know what you mean by "normal" people but online businesses are
outselling the brick and mortar places and putting them out of business.

Why should I go to a store when I can spend a lot less time and no gas to
get it delivered to me? And usually for free? And usually in a way that
will benefit me? Like through Swagbucks so that I can get gift cards for
Amazon.com? Usually costs less money too. Win win.

Me too. Normal people don't wander around stores looking for things that a
lot of stores don't even carry. It makes for crabby people in my experience.

Normal people pick up the phone and ask if they don't know which store
to find it in.

Indeed! Heck, my elderly parents even do a lot of online shopping. My dad
needed new pants and shoes. My mom ordered them online and that saved her a
lot of time. She did look in stores and couldn't find the shoes anywhere.
She could find the pants but one pair here and one pair there.

Yes, I do go to Target almost every week but our store is one of the smaller
ones. The last few things I bought from them were not even in stock in my
store. Sure it takes me a few days to get the order if I order online
but... That's better to me than having to drive to some other city. I'll
do it if there is an immediate need but I try to plan ahead so there is
rarely an immediate need.

You'd have to buy a lot of other stuff to get it for "free". No
thanks. I don't think that way.

Not always. I can get everything from Target for free shipping. Lots of
stuff from Costco has free shipping too. And some places have a minimum as
little as $25. It's not a big deal.

The potential for comparing various brands in the store, getting
information from the shopkeep, developing a relationship with the
shopkeep and store, finding other wholly unrelated items of interest.
And certainly many more.

The reason I don't buy records/CD's as much as I once did is the fact
that I can root around among the product looking for oddities. Same as
with bookstores, though I do still have a couple of good large used
bookstores around.

> Usually costs less money too. Win win.

That's true they can usually do better with price, but I don't mind
spending a little extra to ensure the life of a local store and their
family.

The shopkeep? You sound like you are shopping in a little store with just
the owner. We don't have too many places like that here any more and those
places aren't of much interest to me. Sure, there is the bead store but
really if I want beads, I can do much better online!

I never buy records or CDs. I did buy some in the 1980's but the appeal
quickly wore off. I do like music. I just like current music so I can
easily get that on the radio.

Well we don't have too many stores like that here any more.

I don't have to drive. You have to get your exercise sometime, so why not walk/jog and save money on the gym? There are plenty of stores in my general area, so I just wait until the next time I'm at a certain store and then stock up. I have other reasons to take buses or the subway to far-off places, so I take the opportunity to shop then, too. Bottom line: Unless you live in a place where you simply cannot shop anywhere without a car, there's no need to make any special trips - and you can usually avoid those anyway, simply by calling, if the store doesn't have its entire inventory listed online.

We don't have subways here and I'm not on a bus route. Even if I were on a
bus route here, they mainly go downtown and not to any of the stores around
here. There is no store within walking distance to me. I am disabled. I
could never jog and I can't even walk very well.

I make one special trip per week into Woodinville to get gas at Costco, do
some shopping there and go to Target. Once in a while I will go to one of
the other stores there.

When I go to see my parents, I might go to PCC or Whole Foods because they
are near where they live. I used to go to Winco weekly but now it's more
like once every month or two.

I am lucky that there is a grocery store in the same strip mall where my
daughter's dance studio is. So I can go over there and get things while she
is in dance. But... They don't carry everything and it is necessary to go
to other places at times.

In general I hate to just make a trip to go shopping. The planned trip is
different. We are already closer to that area than we are from home so it
makes sense to do it that way. I have always tried to combine stops to
places rather than making a trip just to go shopping.

I guess I'm not normal then. Except for groceries, I probably do 99%
of my shopping online. If I have to go to a store, I like to be able
to go straight to the item(s) I want, pay for them, and get out. One
thing I can't stand is when a store moves everything around and I
can't find what I'm looking for.

You're wrong there sf. There have been countless reports on the news and
the Internet recently about how online shopping is hurting the brick and
mortar stores business. In this area you can even get groceries delivered
by Amazon. I haven't done that yet though.

I called Whole Foods. Yes, they have it. It's a 10-ounce bottle for under $4. Not bad. (I doubt I could even tell fake vanilla from real vanilla when used, say, in devil's food cake, so I'm not going to search for any higher prices.)

Another recipe that includes it comes from the 1963 "The Eating-in-Bed Cookbook." It's "Pomegranates Inferno" and consists of the seeds, with orange-flower water, rosewater, sugar, and lemon juice.

For a couple of other recipes, including alcoholic watermelon, see the author's 1963 article from the Toledo Blade, he

http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...g=7289,7128315

Personally, though, I think it would be much less tiring simply to cut the melon in half, cut up the pulp, put it back in (mashed or unmashed), and THEN add the gin!

Without reading all the replies, has anyone made homemade orange
water? ( There are no Mideastern stores anywhere close to me.)

I have made rosewater - it's a breeze and many how-tos on youtube, if
anyone's interested.
