Default RAIN !!!

YaaaaaY !!!

We've had a ridiculously long dry spell here in Western Washington.
We had NO rain for over 75 days which is practically unheard of. Of
course it made for a beautiful Summer but it was getting scary dry and
fires were popping out.

This is our first rainy weekend..... !!! So glad to see it. I'm
doing stuff around the house this weekend and making a bit pot of beef
and barley soup. Smells really good right now.

Here's the recipe I use with whatever tweaks I do with what I have on
hand.

http://hizzoners.com/recipes/soups/1...-a-barley-soup

I didn't have any leftover pot roast so I started with some chuck cut
up and browned and
simmered till pretty tender.

When we were living in Washington in the late 80s they were in the midst
of a long drought. As I recall, it lasted around 6 years or so. This was
funny because we had been told that it would be raining every day. Them
folks wuz nuts. :-)

I would miss it, too. We get spells of dry weather during most summers,
but nothing like that long. And, yes, sounds like a good day for cooking
comfort food!

Seattle get less rain than many cities. Most of their rain is in the
winter.

That's true Greg, but we get more rainy days with fewer inches all at
once. The rain here is heaviest in the Winter months but it is
usually spread out over the year. When I lived in New Orleans we
could get 2 inches of rain in an hour. It's like someone turned on a
faucet. Here we get what I call "she" rain as opposed to "he" rain
like we got in New Orleans. It's a softer rain but it goes for
days. We do have drier Summers but this one was ridiculous.
