Default Quirky restaurant; down town east side of Van

When I was in Vancouver (Canada) in 2003, I hopped into a restaurant
for some blue berry pie and ice cream. It was very reasonably
priced.
The next time I went in, they wouldn't serve pie and ice cream. I
think the reason was because they figured they had priced it too
cheap. They could have raised the price...???
So anyway, I then asked if I could have a separate order of pie, and a
separate order of ice cream. They refused. I was told that I could
have either pie, or ice cream.?????????
I wonder how long they stayed in business??? Who knows??
The down town east side of Vancouver is pretty quirky to say the
least.

Sounds like a vignette from Portlandia.

Are you sure the dessert didn't come with the meal?

Perhaps things have changed now but I ordered an iced tea as a kid because
they didn't have any diet drinks at that time and I can't stand sweet drink.
I was shocked and horrified to discover that they had sweetened it for me.
With sugar! I had to resort to a hot tea to get a plain beverage.

I'm sure, as I never had a meal there. Just dessert.

You have a point.

You must have been in the South. People have said many times right
here in rfc that that's how they serve tea unless otherwise specified.
