Are you sure the dessert didn't come with the meal?

Perhaps things have changed now but I ordered an iced tea as a kid because
they didn't have any diet drinks at that time and I can't stand sweet drink.
I was shocked and horrified to discover that they had sweetened it for me.
With sugar! I had to resort to a hot tea to get a plain beverage.
