Default Merry Christmas and good cooking to you all!

Hello my friends, I wish you good cooking and happiness! Today I Am
invited. My friends asked me to make homemade fettuccine all'uovo.
They will be seasoned with ragł alla bolognese. Perhaps I will prepare
also some fritters borrago- officinalis based ( I have it in my
kitchen garden).

Ohhh! Ahahah! I have studied a new way for making pizza. You can do it
when you have to make many varietys and have few time to do it. You
can make them after lunch and have ready for the oven in the evenig. I
will tell you. This evening only for me, seasoned "alla
Valdostana" (tomatoes, fontina and mozzarella, onions, cooked ham).
GNAM GNAM)))))
cheers

Borago or borrago officinalis (both terms are valid) is an herb and
you can find it on google or Wikipedia. It's leaves are used in
kitchen ( they have a cucumber taste9 and it's blue flowers are used
in confectionery.
Cheers

Yes, I thing It is a wonderful herb: you can put in salads, in your
omelette and other preparation. Flowers are good to garnish cakes or
cocktails!

The Italian threw me off-- but the Latin and the description made me
wonder how you folks handle 'the verse'.

A Google sent me here & probably solved the mystery-
http://botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/b/borage66.html

Quoting Gerard;
"Pliny calls it Euphrosinum, because it maketh a man merry and
joyfull: which thing also the old verse concerning Borage doth
testifie:
Ego Borago - (I, Borage)
Gaudia semper ago. - (Bring alwaies courage.) "

It rhymes in Latin *and* English.<g> How does Italian do it?

Well, in medieval latin they call "Borrago officinalis". BTW all the
engine search take you to the same herb

I guess that means borage would be good chopped and sprinkled on salad
in the summertime. What about when you cook with it? Still a
cucumber taste? I discovered that I really like cooked cucumber when
I visited China. I have no idea how they prepare it (other than
applying heat), but it's very simple.

Well, I haven't noticed cucumber taste in the fried rollballs. Much
more in frittata. Perhaps because different quantities of leaves.
Cheers

Certainly has been quite a while. Lots has happened.
Got a job where I am the 'boss' in charge of 30 specialists and
multimillions of $$'s of specialised equipment, survived stomach and
bowel cancer, although do not have much of my stomach left and can't eat
like I used to.... went o/s a few times (4?), and did 3 or 4 trips
interstate on holidays and looking for houses...... and have just bought
a house!!

I think I'm going to have to have a look around and see if we have it
here in Oz, and get it for my new herb and vege garden.

And then look up cocktail recipes that use it ;-)
