Default New food processor

My first food processor didn't get much use. I wasn't quite as
adventurous in my cooking, back then, and like shelly I figured I
could do everything with my trusty chefs knife. Screw that! Last
time I worked in a resto, I did some prep work and got to see all the
other food prep being done. The two FPs got worked to their last good
wire! A boat motor-sized Robot Coupe stick blender took up the slack
wherever possible. Lordy! ...I believe!

I'm now like a man possessed, wanting to cook all that exotica I've
learned to love but have never made. Falafel, hummus, to name two.
Plus, my knuckles are raw from fine grating carrots for carrot cake by
hand. I want horsepower!! Stir fry! Yes, I can slice/mince/chop all
that stuff by hand, but screw that, too. A slicer plate and I've done
5 veggies in 60 secs!

So! ...I'm chomping at the bit fer a new FP, having given my old one
to my daughter when I moved. I think I've found the perfect fit:

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/produc...tegoryID=46711

It's got the right disks, it's got the capacity fer potluck prep, it's
got the 2nd lid with jes a hole in it. It's on sale. It's free
shipping. I think I've got GAS (gadget acquisition syndrome) and I
think I'm in love!

Yay. Good for you. You are going to love your Cuisinart, I know I
surely love mine.

I don't use my food processor very often, but I have to say that when I
do, it is indispensable.

My DLC-8M has been going strong for years. I keep the small lid on
mine unless I need the other. It is great for a single loaf of bread
too.

I found another one on Ebay about 8 years ago that had all the disks
and some other attachments. It is my backup.

You will have one problem with a Cuisinart processor: you'll have it
forever. Well, almost forever. I've had mine for at least 20 years.
(I'll keep you posted!)

My first FP was a 7 cup. It was back in the day when Cuisinart had a
lifetime warranty on the motor. OTOH, a new bowl for that model is no
longer made and a NIB bowl cost $130, thirty more than I paid for the
whole FP, new. I'm sure it still runs jes fine. You'd hafta ask my
daughter, who I'm sure never uses it at all.

That's the one I have and its earned it's keep and the right to a place
on the counter top. I don't keep appliances out as a rule. I've
purchased extra or replacement bowls over the years when necessary.
Get it! The price is good.

Looks like mine, nb. You Should Have That. I'm wedded to that size
because I've got all the disks for that size ‹ a lot of bucks now,
doable when I got them.

He's good, thanks. Nurse Ratched is (mostly) in control. I have a
trump card if he thinks he's going to get testy on me. Let's just say
it involves bare skin (his) and a video that could be on Facebook or
YouTube in a trice. "-)

His appetite is back to about normal and we'll have grilled chuck steak
tonight (presently marinating in a teriyaki-like mixture under vacuum in
my Tilia FoodSaver). Green salad. Some raw veg sticks maybe. Maybe
hashbrown-type potatoes. Depends on my enthusiasm for the project.
Right now I don't have much. :-\

I could get enthusiastic about that, especially the potatoes. 2.5 months of
low carb and potatoes are golden.

Glad he's feeling better because they're a burden when they get cranky.

I just got a fine grating disk. It has a surface with rasp teeth; no
holes. In all the years I've had the DLC8, I never used the dough
blade. I mix dough with the steel blade. Am I missing anything?

I don't know. The instruction manual directs to use the dough blade for
a recipe with more than three cups of flour, IIRC.
