My sister came back from one of his concerts at the Brooklyn Paramount with
his autograph on the sleeve of her white shirt!

Sorry, but Wikipedia doesn't recognize that link. Do you mean the singer or
the chess champion?

Eddie's marriages lasted about a year on average. A collector but not
necessarily a keeper.

You probably have to be at leas 60 to recognize the name eaily.

OTOH, we don't know for sure if Eddie ever played chess or if Bobby ever
sang.

That's how I know of him, aside from being Carrie Fisher's father.

Yup. I guess I read an Elizabeth Taylor biography at some point
so I knew that connection.

I remember him quite well. I'm 71 and he was popular when I was in high
school. But what I remember most is a TV interview in later life when he
described his drug use, parodying sticking a needle in his arm.

Carrie Fisher's mom is Debbie Reynolds.

I was not aware that Eddie Fisher was still alive - so completely did he
disappear from public view in the 60s. That's what you become for
dissing America's sweetheart - persona non grata. He was also once
married to Liz Taylor which sorta puts him into the "likely to be dead"
category.

for one thing, the headcase and chess player was named *fischer*. and most
people can tell the difference between 'bobby' and 'eddie.'

other than that they're easily confused.
