Default Types of White Sugar?

Cooking newbie here. I'm confused by the types of white sugar in
cook books. I'm pretty sure that confectioners sugar is the same
as powdered sugar, right? Is caster sugar the same as plain ole
granulated sugar? And what is superfine sugar? Is it something
halfway between granulated and powdered?

Thanks, Michael
