Default Removing silverware marks from dishes?

Okay this isn't exactly about cooking but I don't know where else
to ask the question. How do you remove those black streak marks
that silverware leaves on dishes? Obviously not SOS! Nothing seems
to work and I'm starting to think about using paint stripper or
something but that's probably not a good idea. There must be a
way to get those black marks off without harming the plates. Thanks.
