I saw a crock pot at Wal-Mart just this week that had divided
sides. If I see them again, I'll check the price... I have a
couple of crock pots so I didn't even give them a second look...
Perhaps, depending upon it's size - it's liner (or one you
already have) might be interchangeable. Wouldn't that be nice?
Single opening when you want and double when you need it.

Darn, now I'm gonna have to look (which mean, "buy") when I go
next time.

Those plastic roaster bags? Put the sweet potatoes in one and the potatoes
in another...Artfully roll the excess bag up and place in the Crock.

You could use some heavy-duty aluminum foil (or a few layers of the
regular foil) and fashion a divided liner in the crockpot.
