I know a few of you drink, so I'll ask! Do any of you have the Zoom Corkscrew
- it's mentioned in Bon Appetit - November issue? I'm in need of something new to open wine - my Screwpull is worn out!!! |

I own a corkscrew that as far as I can tell is exactly like this one: http://www.cooksworld.com/Merchant3/...e=wine+related The beauty is the foil cutter is part of the corkscrew. You pull the bottom end apart about half an inch, exposing the four cutting wheels; put them around the top of the bottle; give a squeeze and a quarter-turn; and the last 1/8th inch of the foil comes away in your hand. The guy who invented these is my damn hero. Then you get to open the bottle with the other end. Takes only a little practice and care to get it to work (hint: put the point to the side of the center of the cork, so the center of the screw ends up in the center of the cork; second hint: correct any misalignment within the first full turn, and all will be alright; third hint: screw it in until you're out of screw-turns, and resist the temptation to remove the cork halfway and screw some more). --Blair "Cork's a wastin'." |
