Default Thanks to my local grocery

my holiday baking will be cheaper this year. Four pound bag of sugar
is $1.88 reduced from $2.37. Land-O-Lakes butter is $1.88 per pound
reduced from $3.27. All of the L-O-L butter was the same price,
including the small sticks. Wesson Oil was also on sale for $2.18,
reduced from $3.78. King Arthur flour was on sale a couple of weeks
ago so I stocked up.

My fruitcakes are all baked. My children will be here for
Thanksgiving so they can take those home with them.

Have fun - I don't have much family left, so I envy anyone with family
close.

Our store-brand sugar is regularly on sale for .88 for 4 pounds. And
LOL butter has been as low recently as 1.78. It's not different in
taste than the store-brand butter which goes on sale for 1.28.

I found butter yesterday for $1.50 per lb.
That'd make for some cheap baking. :-)

I'm considering making shortbread cookies this year instead of cheating
and buying stuff this year for the cousins...

I rarely bake so could use the experience. <g>

I'll have to get together with my sister and make it a family project.

Wesson oil is a good as old lard. Why not go for olive oil, peanut oil
or soy oil.

You deals are better than ours. I picked up butter on sale for $3.27/lb.
I was just thinking this afternoon that it is time to make my light
fruitcake.

Do you watch for sales on flour or do you buy in bulk? I find that the
larger the bag, the cheaper the flour is. While small bags may go on
sale, it is generally cheaper to buy it in 20 lb bags.

I just watch for sales and buy 5 or 6 bags at a time. I don't have a
source for King Arthur in large quantities and if I did then I have to
find containers to keep it in. Now I just toss the bags in the
basement refrigerator and bring one up when I need it.

I haven't checked the prices on flour at my country store recently.
The last time I looked was when the prices were going up so fast the
wholesalers were not quoting prices. The store owner found out when
it arrived how much it cost.

I just checked the ad for my grocery store and found a couple more
interesting things. Check the price of the turkey and flour.

This ad came out last Sunday (11-15) and runs for 2 weeks. They
usually do this at holiday periods. We are in the boondocks, not a
major metropolitan area.
