My mother is here for a week. One of her main missions was to consume
copious quantities of shellfish. No worries on that part. She arrived on Easter, and we had a North Carolina-style pork shoulder with mashed yams and roasted asparagus. For dessert we had coconut macaroons with strawberries and blueberry sauce (see April Bon Appetit) left over from the previous night's neighborhood mixed-marriage Seder. She was not sure about some of the vegetables we had this week. Artichokes were beyond her understanding. She didn't like kale, either. However, she raved about the fried oysters she got at Ivar's (local seafood chain). We took her to a shellfish farm near the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, where she got 2 pints of oysters to freeze and take home. All was not good on Thursday, however. She fell off the last step in our garage and landed on the back of her head. SO called 911, and the guys from the firehouse up the hill responded promptly. The ambulance took her to the University of Washington Med Center ER. Fortunately, she did not have any bleeding into her brain. We got some Chinese takeout comfort food on the way home. Today we'll head down to Pike Place Market and perhaps get some clams for tonight's dinner. Life is good. Cindy -- C.J. Fuller Delete the obvious to email me |
