Default Slow cooker suggestions needed...

Friends,
I am going crazy trying to find a good slow cooker by researching
the net. I go to various sites and then research a model on Amazon to
see what people say about it. I am more confused than ever!
First of all, I would like to cook a regular sized corn beef brisket
that ever grocery store has. With it, I would like to add cabbage,
onions, and potatoes. Being single, would a six quart size be too big
or should I stick with 4 quart?
I am trying to shop online, so it is not quite as easy as having
them in front of me to compare (recent leg injury prohibits me from
going to the store right now). Another thing I am running into is that
on so many models, people complain that on the slow settings of
whatever model I am looking at cooks too fast. The more I research,
the more difficult a decision becomes.
Where better to go than here? I definitely want an oval unit, but
anything you can add as to brand or whatever is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

What ever you get, don't get a Rival Crock Pot© I threw mine in the
trash along with the food it overcooked. No matter what I did, that
thing got too danged hot. I have read several critiques of the Rival©
that say the same about regulating the heat.

I replaced mine with a Hamilton Beach "Stay and Go"© and I am immensely
happy with it. It's a 5 quart, I believe, but it's fine for cooking for
two. Hamilton Beach makes all sizes and styles. Mine is programmable
and has a probe but they have them with ordinary dials, too. They are
not very expensive. I got mine at Target®

I bought a Sears Kenmore 7 qt. stainless steel oval slow cooker past
October & so far been happy with it for the price.

You can go to Sears.com to view.

No wonder. The problem is the brands have changed in quality. Rival used
to be top of the sturdy line but is no longer so. My 'momma crock' is a
Hamilton Beach.

I think this time the 'shape' is more key than size. You should look for a
4 quart oval as optimal for your needs. Hamilton Beach has a nice 4 quart
one.

Got to www.amazon.com and search on slow cookers x quart and you will see
alot of them.

If you do go bigger, best be planning to freeze lots of leftovers!

I did exactly the same as you and everything people are telling you is true.
The Rival cooks too hot, you cannot make it low enough. I even put mine on a
cutting board because I worried about the counter top. It warped the cutting
board. I didn't even care when it quit after less than a year. The
kitchen-aid I bought from amazon cracked during the first use. I got my
money back. The Hamilton- Beach is perfect. You can buy them at amazon or
Target on line.

You made an excellent choice, Mark. I love mine. Mine has a probe, too.

Based on what people have e-mailed me and posted in this NG, I went
and got the Hamilton Beach Stay or Go 6 quart oval crock pot and I
love it. Mine is copper colored. I love the locking lid and it even
has a rubber (gasket) seal around the glass lid for a tight fit. Also,
comes with a carrying bag for when you want to take a meal somewhere.
It really is nice!

Here it is, but I bought it at Meijers which had a 10% discount, so I
got it for $34.00 and some change.

Yes, I know, but I wanted it fast so I could cook my Jig's dinner in
it. I really like what I see, but I will use it for the first time
tomorrow night.
