There was a democratic settlement to the problem with Ireland, with the people in the north voting overwhelmingly to stay with the UK, so it was partitioned. The terrorists in Northern Ireland were well funded by various Irish American groups. It was not political persecution that sent so many Irish to the US. It was poverty and starvation. They went in great numbers to the US where land was cheap. They also migrated in great numbers to England, and to Canada and Australia, all British at the time. Lucky for the Irish that they always had England to blame for their problems. And FWIW, my great great grandfather was Irish Catholic, and he left Ireland for Canada, not because of British oppression but because he was so disgusted with the Church that he left the priesthood and a country where he thought the church had way to much influence, all negative. |

Ophelia talks in riddles and rhymes, sings some "mad" and bawdy songs about death and a maiden losing her virginity. After bidding everyone a "good night", she exits. Yawn!!! If you think I don't know in which play Ophelia features then you are quite wrong. I have no intention of discussing Hamlet with you, because it has no bearing on your stupidity. |

History & literature as well as news groups overflow with the type of quick tempered but slow wited ilk you seem to want to be perceived as an example of. You remind me, to paraphrase Lord Altrincham, of a priggish schoolgirl, captain of the hockey team, a prefect and a recent candidate for Confirmation. Your reputation will depend upon your personality, you will have to say things which people can remember and things which will make people take notice. Rather than dismiss you for the xenophobic, foul mouthed bitch you seem to want to be perceived as. But if that's your intention, to portray yourself as some sort of cast iron bitch well ... you go gurl, your all that and a bag of chips. Or should i say "crisps." -- JL |

<snipped rubbish> Joseph, This has no place here, as with your diatribe against the British. If we didn't dislike the Americans before you posted here, we could well be persuaded now. I have no further interest in this subject. |
